Hey guys! You know what would be funny? Me actually posting things I said I would and on time! *Starts laughing like a lunatic*
I think my brain decided to take vacation early after National Writing Month. My ability to concentrate lately has been equal to that of a wet fart. Fun Times.
SO! On to the postscript.
So, while this isn’t the first multi-chapter story I’ve completed, it is the first one technically not getting a sequel. If you’re reading this before the epilogue, that’s why the story doesn’t have the “completed” tag on it yet. Yes, it is a prequel so it technically does, but just like the Star Wars prequels that story was done at the end of Episode III, so this story is done now.
None of the chapters ever deviated from what I wanted to tell for the most part because they were designed ahead of time more so to be almost like bullet points. Describe how things were before Discord went evil, how his reign started, what it was like living during this time, how he was defeated, and how it ended up taking out the kirins as well. The only things that changed really was the details and a few character interactions to flesh them out some more.
Besides those points I wanted to explore the backgrounds of a couple of things as well, mainly some of Discord relationships and the origin of the Alicorn Amulet.
For the later, I admit I swiped the plot of Albi’s Sunset of Time in that it was supposed to be part of a set. However, with how the amulet affects the wearer, it would become quickly obvious that that plan would need major revisions and with years already put into the program it would be better to just scrap it. I’m thinking of bringing it back in the main story in some way but that’s currently just in the notes section of the workbench and isn’t part of a hard plotline yet (most of season 4 isn’t set in stone yet).
When it came to Discord and his relationships, I wanted to throw my own hat in the ring because I’ve seen plenty of interpretations here and in discussions on other sites like YouTube, ranging from Discord and Celestia being a happy couple tragically split through fate to them him being the worst enemy that the princesses have ever faced. What I took away from what I saw in the show what that they once had a relationship but it ended in a bad break up. Celestia would NEVER have even entertained the idea of releasing him if he was her worst enemy ever and they couldn’t have been THAT lovey-dovey or else he wouldn’t have gone bad.
As for his other relationship, that with Storm Vine, I wanted to portray it more like a brother-sister relationship but I couldn’t help feeling at some points that the way I wrote it, it would have been better if they were the romantic pairing. It would certainly have given Steel Spark more of an incentive, but then we wouldn’t have had Bright Dawn and Tempest Flame and I prefer her to have a loving family to fall back on when the times became rough.
Overall, I’m content with how the story came out, if not its release schedule, but we’ve been over that already so no reason to touch on it again.
And while Storm Vine’s story is over, it’s not the last we’re going to here from of her. There’s still that pendent of hers that’s around that we (you) still don’t know what it does.
As for the final chapter being the only one with music, it’s more the scene fits the music than the music fits the scene and the same (mostly) goes for the main story. If any scene has music, it’s because I was listen to the song/track one day and a scene just pops into my head to go with it. Sort of like how Disney’s Fantasia was described and as it’s my second most favorite Disney movie, I take that idea to heart. So there’s no music for the battle scenes but instead for the aftermath of the last battle and the funeral for that reason.
Yeah, not much of a postscript all things considered but I felt that it should have one. At least for the rest of season 3 there won’t be any other side stories to distract me from the main story. Whole different story when The Witching Girls launches, however.
