Nothing particularly unusual about this. VAs rarely match the exact age of their characters; the CMCs VAs were older than their characters by the end of FiM, Tara Strong was in her 30s and 40s when voicing Twilight Sparkle (a character suggested to be in her early 20s and her human counterpart is a teen), and Spike was voiced by Kathy Weseluck in G4-who was much older than the dragon would logically be.

You know, now that I think about it, it's kinda weird that the fandom has made such a big deal out of alicorns being immortal yet ignored the fact that dragons might be in the same boat.

True but Sparky is more shocking to me because you rarely see male voice actors playing child roles, let alone baby roles. It’s pretty impressive, and I wonder why they cast him over a female voice actor. Maybe they have future plans to show Sparky when he’s older

Sparky may have a long lifespan, but he is canonically pretty young…we see him hatch in Make Your Mark and I doubt more than a year or two has passed since then

I don't think the fandom's "ignored" it whatsoever: "Spike outlives everypony" was a very, very common sadfic premise both before and after Twilicorn, and I've even seen it be done with Smolder twice or thrice. If anything, I'm actually a little surprised Sparky hasn't been written through it yet, at least as far as I'm aware.
