my daily dilemma (first world problem rant) · 1:57am April 14th
a combination of fast metabolism + picky eater + procrastinator + reluctant to spend money
- get hungry a lot >> cannot skip meals or i'll suffer*
- lazy to cook >> procrastinate cooking until 9pm or later
- get sick of eating the same thing every day >> "meal prep" for more than 2-3 days is tricky >> end up cooking every day or every other day
- get tired of cooking so often >> tempted to go to nice restaurant, of which there are PLENTY, living in one of the top foodie cities in the US
- but don't wanna waste money >> try to resist the urge to eat out
- still hungry
- give in and decide to eat out >> spend long time deciding where to eat, too many choices >> as i decide, i ruminate over how much money i'm going to be spending
- don't like too much unhealthy or processed food >> refuse to go to mcdonald's or some cheapo fast-food restaurant to fill my stomach**
- still hungry
- go to highly-rated "hole-in-wall" [insert ethnic minority] restaurant >> shocked by high prices >> do i pick that really tasty looking soft shell crab, or do i pick the cheaper chicken? ughhhh
- food is somewhere between decent to delicious >> feel bad about spending money, regardless which option i picked
- need my daily fix of white rice***, fresh fruits, and veggies >> restaurants rarely serve a lot of fresh fruits & veggies, and their white rice is always eh, so i miss my home cooking
- go back to "lazy to cook" and repeat the cycle
just kidding, my relationship with food is pretty good overall and i wouldn't trade it for another
* i'll get indigestion. i lost at least 5 pounds from skipping a few meals at everfree northwest last year.
** except at an airport. something about the taste of a greasy mcdonald's burger and fries during a long layover in a crowded airport just hits the spot. although i had a phase when i was 12-13 when i would refuse to eat at a fast-food restaurant, at all costs
*** the most basic-bitch-asian thing for me to say, but it's true
things that aren't worth cooking at home, and better to go eat at a restaurant:

stew tbh, takes hella ingredients and it can be done pretty good at home but i would probably go and get it from a restaurant if i can

I can get behind that, although stews and curries are easy to make in bulk so once you make it you have food for many days. And they often taste better over time

That’s true, def one of the benefits when you do make it at home
