so.
last night, i was dabbling a bit with fractures again. i was finally making a decision on how I wanted the story to end, despite said story only having about 1.5 chapters written so far across over three years of existence.
i also during that time made the decision to split off a chunk of the story to instead serve as a prequel. an explainer for how things led up to the event that sets off Fractures, and why.
and somehow, I only JUST made the connection tonight...
the ideas that I split off into a prequel to Fractures just happens to mirror Splintershard amazingly. we've got the crumbling nation that's just barely holding together, superweapons made with the intention of singlehandedly ending a brewing civil war, and a cast of characters unceremoniously and forcefully yeeted into dealing with it.
if I am to go forward with writing a double-feature of Fractures in both original fiction and fanfic, I can't think of any better story that could serve as a setup than Splintershard. With that story coming to a close within its final few chapters, it has the opportunity to do something big. :)
plus, it slightly takes the sting away from Splintershard's curse of "will always be buried under a pile of other stories updating mere minutes after I post a new chapter". hopefully that doesn't hop over to Fractures when that comes around.
and like, the planned ending for Splintershard already fits so frickin' well with the newly-intended prequel to Fractures in original fiction. why shouldn't I take advantage of that?
