I write too much too little for no reason. Now I'm off to hyperfixate on detailing that bush.

    Jinx, where ya been?

Hiya! How's tricks? Are you doing well?

Sorry I've not been around or writing much for, like, a month. I put out a side story a 'lil while ago, but it's honestly not my best work. You can go read it if you haven't, but I can do better—and I should've done better. It's just that writing has been... a tenuous activity for me for awhile now.

A freaky dream, and the continuation of The Stereotypical Necromancer! · 7:27pm Oct 9th, 2023

So, I'm guessing there's one of those two things you're probably more interested in, yeah?

Well, too bad! I'm talking about the dream I had last night, first! :rainbowwild:

So, I had a dream about TSN, which isn't a common thing for me. I usually have uncorrelated nightmares that are otherwise totally distinct from any actual goings-on in my life, which made this dream all the more intrinsically jarring. I had apparently continued the story at some point, beginning from where I let off with an apparent 'Final Chapter.'

From there, completely shirking the so-called 'final chapter,' the story immediately continued with a massive timeskip, wherein we came back to Light possessing massive proficiency in Necromancy. He's also somehow acquired the ability to travel in time, and he uses this ability, somehow interrelated to Necromancy and the manipulation of some freaky skeleton, to trick Bon Bon into going into the past with him. Once there, he murders her, and then tracks down her younger self to murder her as well, which somehow amounted to Light never having had any opposition in his study of Necromancy? Because that makes sense?

It was then revealed that... somehow in the process of time being changed, Light was actually my actual, for-real, honest-to-Celestia self insert, and as I, in the story, floated in some outside-of-time void while time restructured, I pondered to myself about how 'my' studies would progress without Bon Bon being there to hinder(?) them.

I distinctly remember, from my in the dream perspective as the author, reading all of that weird, tropey schlock and realizing that I didn't remember writing any of it, and I was genuinely horrified about it and how awful it all was. As I, the real me, was when I woke up in a cold sweat and rushed to check the story to make sure it hadn't actually happened.

So, that led me to right now, when I've more or less decided to finally continue writing the story. Not that the two events are connected in any way, but it did feel a little like I was visited by the ghost of Hearth's-Warming-yet-to-come and told, in no certain terms, that I was on the verge of creative bankruptcy. :twilightsheepish:

Really, though, I've been wanting to come back for a while. I miss Light! I miss writing things other than extremely technical paragraphs of the biological processes of magic! Although, my notes aren't actually done—but that doesn't matter! I forced myself to skip over a fewcouple dozen things to flesh out what's most imminently important so I can start writing again. Just what I need for the next chapter or so, and during any free time that I may have, I'll keep on writing the notes alongside the story.

But hey, I got to 20k words, and I'm certain of a few key aspects of where the story should go! We're in a good spot, and we can get back to recursive drabbles! Hip-hip-hooray for Light standing around and thinking a lot! I hope you missed it as much as I did! :pinkiecrazy:

4 real, tho, stuff's gonna happen.

This whole post was just a ploy to make us believe Light wasn't your self insert from the start. I only had few dreams that made me genuine believe events from them were real. Moment trying to figure out what was real and wasn't were always jarring.

Oh, absolutely. I gotta admit, you're a shrewd individual indeed to see through my blindingly cunning ploy to fool the poor, blind masses into thinking I ever had any creative integrity in the first place! :rainbowlaugh:

For real, though, my initial thought of Light being an SI was my conversation with a fellow some time ago wherein I asserted that, over the long, winding course of writing The Stereotypical Necromancer, I had begun to adopt Light's characteristics, and that, at this point, I was like his SI.

So... there's kinda some truth to it? Light and I are similar, but it's a lot like I've taken on his characteristics. Also, I'd never actually turn Light into an SI, because I don't really like SI! Take that for what you will! :twilightsheepish:

Knowing Light there is no end to such questions. Only a wide arms of rabbit hole.

itd be nifty if you wanted to have a time skip if he was captured by a changeling and pop him up so you could theoretically dump him off at any point in the g4 timeline but it'd def be interesting if you make him have adventures outside of the normal timeline, like have a sister plot where light is the pupil to luna and does basically the plot of gen 4 but with luna as the one mentoring and helping out light as reverse to celestia tutoring twilight and maybe some rivalry but he does on different problems (or just make him take on side non cannon ish threats like the storm king) with some overlap perhaps. just my opinion

That sounds like a crazy dream.

Imagine having creativity.

Creativity and imagination are, oddly enough, VERY different things.

Oh no... she has finally defrosted and and gave you a Hearths Warming spiel...

"All I want for the Warmin' Hearths~ is Light~"

... or, you know, your self insert.

I love how all the vision-esque dreams always fills us with the same kind of dread after discovering the definitely earth shattering and 100% true events that actually happens to us.

It has happened to me a few times over the years. I don't remember too much of mine, but it was funny in after the fact.

Plus, anything is related to necromancy if you can squint hard enough. Time does eventually claim all life, doesn't it? It even started life after the Big Bang.

I love how Bon Bon and Light's relationship just becomes a love-hate one. All I can imagine is that "F- you and I'll see you tomorrow" meme.

And I am pretty sure Light has a hate Bon-er in hind sight. Or maybe you love their dynamic that she effectively replaced Applejack.

... isn't Light practically you? :trixieshiftright:

Neat, I find that I never dream about the things I take interest in. Rather I always dream about myself just like going shopping or in strange but entirely unfathomaboe situations. Or maybe I did team of interesting stuff and I only ever remember the least compelling brain stories. What a world
