...but sweet Celestia is the MLP fandom just awesome to be a part of.

Bluesky, by far the most highly anticipated alternative to Twitter has been invite-only since it came online in April. The waitlist for an email invite is over 3,000,000 users long.

A certain science-teaching member of the fandom just got me an invite code.

Time to build what following I can, and try not to forget about Twitter until Elon completely guts the place.

On the one hand, I think all it would take to finish driving Elon's stake into Twitter's heart would be for a viable replacement to come along. On the other hand, I can't help but think that the thing people want from a viable alternative is the userbase Twitter already has. You know, the userbase that Twitter spent a decade and a half cultivating before Musk came along (and that Musk damn sure didn't earn).

Now granted, the only social media site I'm on is Facebook (wait, do YouTube and FiMFiction count as social media?), so I don't know anything about the Xwitter alternatives. But I can't help but think that with Musk's questionable decisions, all it would take is for Twitter's disenchanted users to just pick an alternative and go, and attract their followers to it.

Bluesky is the most sought after, but after Elon announced the removal of the block function, they got so many requests that the servers went down, so they've clearly got work to do.

I will never be able to make sense of the Mastodon stuff, so that will likely sputter and die because of how complicated it is.

I'd certainly call Fimfiction social media because of how easy it is for authors and readers to interact with each other here.

Honestly, I wonder if having many smaller competitors might be better than having just one. I think one of the biggest problems with these sites that they’re kinda monopolies.
