End of Month Report - July (Part 2) · 1:50am Aug 1st, 2023

More music to listen to while you read.

This will be a series of story announcements. All of the following are in various states of completion or planning.

First up: a story written for PonyJosiah13's birthday!

A.K. Yearling is summoned by Princess Celestia to investigate claims of floating islands over the Southern Sea. What lies in wait for he is an ancient mystery - and a villain that's been waiting for a chance to strike.

Status: 90% complete

(Literally just need to figure out how to end it...)

This will be a sequel to Daring Do and the Legend of the Kirinstone. This is mostly what I've been working on this past month. Aside from small story details, I'm still figuring out how to finish it. Yet another story inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

So this next one is going to need a bit of an explanation. Hopefully, I won't be judged too harshly, seeing as this is a site for writing about colorful ponies learning about friendship. And also the fact that there are some folks who have their own set in stone ships (not naming names, nor trying to shame anyone!).

Back in the day (dear God it was about 10 years ago), when Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen came out, I shipped Ralph and Elsa together hard. I'm talking crossover ships going both ways - Ralph in Arendelle, a Frozen arcade machine in Litwack's Arcade. Fortunately, I never published any of them. I bring this part of my past up because, after some thought, I believe some part of my creativity that was triggered back then got triggered yet again.

And the catalyst for this was as follows:

Someone on Discord, on the topic of Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken: Doesn't Dreamworks get the memo that we want the popular girl and unpopular girl to kiss?

No one, not a single person:

My creativity: Huh. What if I shipped Ruby Gillman with Nimona?

And here we are:

Status: Waiting on Disk Release

Maybe it's because Nimona is my favorite shapeshifter (I read the comic long before I got into MLP, sorry changelings). Maybe it's, again, because Ruby is adorable. Maybe it's because they came out on the same day (the hipster Barbenheimer, and if Dreamworks continues it's record, they'll wind up on the same streaming platform too). These are the best guesses I have as to why I'm writing this.

I'm waiting on Ruby Gillman's disk release because, essentially, this is a movie rewrite. I need as much reference to it on hand as I can get, and I prefer physical media. No telling when this will get done, but the drive is there. Funny enough, this is still the popular girl and unpopular girl kissing, just the meta version.

In conclusion, I dub this the good(?) ship: Nimby

Oh wait, you thought we were done with it. Well, thing is, I had a shower thought about how if The Shark and the Kraken was Nimona in Ruby's world, what about Ruby in Nimona's world?

Turns out: also possible!

Spoilers for Nimona movie ahead: With the world now open to the kingdom, Nimona decides to spread her wings and see what else is out there. The first place she comes across is the sleepy fishing village of Oceanside - currently at war with a giant kraken. Nimona soon smells a rat, and it'll take a team-up with a sea monster to get to the bottom of this conflict.

Status: In Planning

Yep. I did it the other way too. Nimona's world is actually full of mythical creatures, according to the comic. A kraken is entirely feasible. Seeing as this is a more original take on existing stuff from Ruby's world, and with Nimona accesible, I could start working on this sooner than the other one. Might also be borrowing a bit from the game Dredge. Highly recommend it.

FanOfMostEveything, this is a challenge for you when they're done.

And one last story to announce:

(Cover subject to alteration/change)

Charlie Watts, on the long road to Lazlo, Virginia, jokingly dials a "Call for a Good Time" number in a restroom, only for a mysterious van to start following him. In the mountains of the Blue Ridge, not is all what it seems.

Status: In the Editing Bay

A massive thanks to SwordTune for helping me proofread and edit this, I just need to apply his suggestions and the story will be ready to go. I believe I've mentioned this one before. Finally got around to making a cover for it, though it's subject to change.

Status: ???

Thank you all for sticking with me, and for making it through that wall of text and images. I'll be getting to work on all of these in the coming month, creativity willing. Hopefully, you'll see them published as soon as possible.

Probably the only Ruby Gillman fan out there.
Definitely the only one who ships Nimby.
