    BABSCon 2024

Hi y'all, sorry I've been dead on this site for a while, but for any of those who are still out there...I will once again be at BABSCon 2024 in Burlingame, CA, from Mar 29 to 31!

And I'll likely be in my Twilight or Opaline cosplay. Hope to see y'all there!

Opinion: After 5 chapters, Make Your Mark is finally finding its groove! · 1:09am Jul 16th, 2023

The moment Sunny realized her alicorn genetics gave her insanely strong thigh muscles.

A little preview of Make Your Mark Chapter 5 just dropped, and it was honestly one my favorite scenes in G5 so far!

I can't wait to see how they elaborate on Misty's embarrassment with being a "late bloomer" at the Cutie Blossom Bash. Because haven't we all faced a similar embarrassment as Misty? Being older teenagers or adults that enjoy a show where the majority of viewers are young children? It's like if you went to watch a My Little Pony movie...and you were the only grown-ass adult in the whole theater not accompanying a child.

I found Misty's embarrassment so relatable, despite the fact that I've faced quite the reverse situation most my life: I was one of the youngest in my grade (because I had a summer birthday), at high school I studied extracurricular material meant for two to three grade levels above me, and today I'm the youngest person at my workplace that isn't an intern. Being surrounded by people a different age than you is...lonely. It can feel like you don't belong, or you feel isolated in your thoughts and perception of life. You’re part of the group yet you never truly belong.

I'd say I'm a solid fan of G5. It can't be compared to G4; it's a good show in it's own right. In G4, most episodes followed a rigid model of Friendship Problem --> Conflict --> Lesson Learned. G5 Make Your Mark is less structured, which can feel more realistic and like a breath of fresh air.

Add to this that pony conventions are still well-attended, I think the fandom has matured to a steady, loyal community. We've still got a lot of material to work with and a lot of steam left, and can't wait to see what's next.

Agreed. The current fandom is what I dub 'the faithful few'; the people who stuck around after the fair-weather folks left.

so in other words, it's worth it if you sit through four seasons of suckage? :B

The earlier four chapters have some gems too!

I actually don't talk about G5 media much, considering that I don't have much time for any cartoon in recent times, some people like to say that it's not deserving and because I don't have solid access to much of its main media that actually matters (I get most of its information from here and the video app in my country). However I will catch up with it in due time, give some time during summer vacation…

(oh, and I also try to avoid spoilers, I'm sure at least the storytellers have plans)

And about the community stuff, I think it's fair to say that we aren't going anywhere.

Here's a metaphor, we're like a ocean shore after the tide. When the tide is here, we can swim around the water, catch things that get washed to us and fight with the wave or against it. When the tide has passed, we can walk by the beach and pick up seashells for collection, build sand castles, have peaceful chats with friends as the sea Wind blows, and even dive deep in the sea to discover sunken ships.

And we're also like a neutron star. When a star burns in its prime, it gives off amazing amounts of energy and is unstablely powerful. When it dies, it will explode first, then the star's fate depends on its mass. If it's too small, then it will burn as a lesser star, a red dwarf, and becomes small, dense, but still quite unstable, until it eventually becomes a white dwarf and silently wait for its eventual cool down. If the star is bigger, it will become either a black hole or a neutron star, because its gravity is strong enough to really destroy stuff and begin to have a tug-a-war with the matter that makes up the sun. If the gravity wins, it becomes a black hole and destroys everything near it. If the matter wins, it becomes a neutron star and becomes incredibly stable inside (still really intimidating from the outside considering its density), with powerful gravity waves spreading far and wide while being incrediblly bright, and with potential of creating really valuable metals that normal stars can't create even when blowing up.

(I had these awesome metaphors in my head for a long time and needed to say some of it so please bear with me. I just think it really fits with fandoms okay? Okay!?)

And there's the fact that we're a global community that has been around for a decade and change, there are big portions in USA, Europe, Russia, China just to name a few, we survived countless crises, so most of us by this point are sure to stay, that's good stuff.

Oh, and one more thing about G5, I like it based on things we've seen so far, and on our website there is a team of translators that posts episodes once they're finished with one translation, so it's like we have time to process one after another after watching one. With how things develop, I think that 3d is challenging especially for a magical show like MLP, I'll wait and see how things process.

Okay I'mma take a break and sleep, see you in 24 hours.
