(How-To) Search for Year-2022 Stories! · 2:12am Dec 30th, 2022
For those looking to identify stories to compile a "best of" list for this year (2022), here is some search logic:
Input in the "Stories" search bar:
(published:>2022-1-1 AND published:<2022-12-31)
Non-Mature Stories: 4271 currently
Mature Stories: 2003 currently
Total Stories: 6274 currently
If you have a library reading shelf that contains all stories you have read, you can run the above search on that shelf. (In fact, that is a more efficient way to filter to stories you are actually familiar with, since going through 4271 on memory alone and squinting to see if you've upvoted a story would take quite a while!)
If you share a "best of" rating for the year, feel free to link to your blog entry on same in the comments below.
this is why I just do best-of-stories-i-reviewed, I have maybe read a half dozen stories actually released this year XD

If you place all stories you read on a single bookshelf, then the process is automated. Assuming this is your bookshelf (https://www.fimfiction.net/bookshelf/609775/reviewed), the answer to how many stories you reviewed that were released this year is 49.
I realize you have a handy spreadsheet you use to track what you read each year; however, is there a way to automate checking which stories any individual reads in a year? I am only aware of the above (how to automate checking stories that were published in any specific range). Since you have the spreadsheet to track what you actually read in a year, certainly it makes sense you take advantage of that for your best-of.

yeah, I'd have to use the bookshelf :B but 49 is hardly equivalent to the number of stories actually published this year
if I'm gonna do a top ten list, I want it based off a representative sample if not the entire body of work <.<

Got it! 49 is only about 1 percent of the new non-mature releases, so that is very understandable!

Somehow I got the impression that lately you'd transitioned to mostly just listening to horseword story readings on youtube, instead of reading them with your eyes...also, that you've listened to a LOT of them. I suppose this would make harder or less convenient to put all those stories on a fimfiction.net bookshelf.

ye
also I read fewer with my eyes because I'm lazy when walking (also I've been teaching myself sign language to help a friend who's lost her voice, among other things) and it doesn't take me 15 minutes to poop anymore :B

A hopefully interesting update. 7 months and 14 days in to the year, we have lost (from 2022-published-tales) 101 non-mature stories, and 73 mature stories to de-listing for a total of 174 lost to de-listing! I wonder if this is more or less than usual.
Non-Mature Stories: 4170 currently (-101 since last time, about 2.4%)
Mature Stories: 1930 currently (-73 since last time, about 3.8%)
Total Stories: 6100 currently (-174 since last time, about 2.9%)
And, as of a bit over halfway through this year, we have 3364 total stories (1035 Mature), tracking to around a similar total as last year's.
