And yet this one wasn't so bad. I mean, yeah, they did drag her into their activities against her will and she had a shitty time, but she did get to relax and enjoy herself her own way at the end (where did her smoothie come from, though?). And the Mane 5 came out of it with the lesson that not everyone is going to enjoy the same things you do, and you shouldn't force it on them. Not only could this have made a decent premise for an FiM episode (though I can't remember if any of them actually did this lesson), but it's a lesson in how to shorten it to a 5min runtime and still make it good.

Think this might be the first time Sparky's dragonfire was used for something other than conflict ex machina. In fact, he was so "fuck this, I'm out," I actually rewatched the episode and noticed that, no, he wasn't having much more fun than Posey.

And this might be one of the few times I actually believe that Twilight recording when she said that magic is stronger than it's ever been. The strength and finesse Izzy displayed with her levitation is up there with some of what G4 unicorns could pull.

Hard to say. The trees around the town area look deciduous in A New Generation, but I could swear there were palm trees closer to the shoreline in A Maretime Bay Adventure. It kind of feels like no one can agree whether Maretime Bay is more like Connecticut or Florida.

As long as the character abuse trope has an actual reason to be there- beyond just “haha, isn’t it funny to watch them suffer?”- then I don’t really mind it. And to the episode’s credit, in five minutes it manages to teach a lesson that even a lot of otherwise great kid shows (including FiM) sometimes botch:
