Well, I certainly found the information enlightening, at least. ^^ Can't wait for the next few chapters! I do love a story that starts off light then goes dark and downhill, especially when you know what's coming. Hence why I love the Horus Heresy books.

I'm actually in the process of studying late Roman/Early Byzantine history, but I have researched the Byzantine Empire in depth, so I found your story delightful due to its comparisons. ^^

Now, if I might ask... I originally found your story through its page on Tvtropes, and I DID do a bit of reading on the spoilers-- for that, you have my apologies, I could not resist. The issue is, it also alluded to a lot of events that I did not find in your fic. Is there, say, another version of it out there, on some other site? Tvtropes seemed to imply that there were more chapters, or more to the fic than there currently is.

I don't mean to imply anything, I am merely confused by this disparity.

I asked mainly because both Turtledove's Videssos and my version of the Crystal Empire were very much based on the Byzantine Empire.
