Sunset Carnelian

The Phoenix, a fiery dictator. She wasn't always this narcissistic and evil ruler of weak ponies. She used to be a, while aggressive at times, sweet and headstrong pony. Loyal to a fault and never leaving her friend’s sides was her big thing when she was young. Fire was too, with a lot of her youth spent reading flame scrolls and every book about fire-related messages she could get her hooves on.

She lived in a small village mostly isolated from the rest of Equestria, and as such had very few visitors. It was surrounded by canyons to the east and volcanoes to the west, making the journey extremely dangerous. She grew up among the majestic pegasi and skilled yet humble earth ponies who knew not of her obsession with the flames. Her tight-knit community knew not of the illness that plagued her mind. She heard “the voices of her ancestors” whispering into her ears, telling her to seek the flame.

Around her eighth birthday, the flames she sought burst from her wings and hooves. She was scared and screamed until her voice went horse. She felt her wings be burned and consumed but they remained untouched. The flames upon her hooves didn’t touch the ground below her. These flames were not only physical but mental as well. Her mind was sparked with the Flames of Old and her identity would begin to change. She was officially marked as Flametouched, and had earned her cutiemark.

The village elders found her paralyzed with fear and began to help her. There had been others like her, those that could create and control the flames. The elders supplied her with the texts necessary to help her learn about her powers but she’d dare not read, believing that she would burn them. She felt the Voices grow louder in her head but they were still whispers.

She hid her powers as the elders advised, but she desperately wanted to let them out. The elders knew that Princess Celestia wouldn’t take kindly to another Flametouched being revealed to Equestria. Simply being Flametouched was a crime punishable by exile to the Wastes, a horrid desert filled to the brim with horrible monsters beyond imagination. She slowly began to experiment and, with practice, she was able to control the physical flames. Her mental flame, however, was not something she could stop. The flames burned her mind with it's embers, slowly and with almost laziness. Madness is but a slow burn on the sanity of an individual, after all.

Over time, her knowledge of the Flametouched grew. She learned that the previous Flametouched gained a lust for power and became fearsome warriors, leading battles with an iron hoof. To some, they were known as the Dark Phoenixes, alluding to the state of their charred and burned mind. She began to fear herself and the things she could do, But that was the gas that flared the flame. If she feared herself, others would fear her too...

Her sanity completely gone, she began to rise to power within the village diplomatically. She was amazing at her ability to speak and influence others. The elders were impressed that she had not fallen to the calls of insanity. Her silver tongue worked overtime to make sure that they didn’t know. Rising up had never been so easy. After many months, she’d finally risen up to one of the highest ranks in the village, which meant she could finally enact her plan.

At the monthly council of leaders meeting, she stepped up on the table and announced there would be some changes going on. The elders, of course, were confused and asked her to get down. She decided that she didn’t need them and let the Flames loose. The screaming was short-lived, as were those weak ponies.

She laughed as they burned, leaving nothing but their frail skeletons. Their screams and cries of pain fueled the fire within her. Her mad rage had only just begun. Leaving those weak little carcasses and ashes behind, she exited the village hall and flew above-said hall. From there, she showed her true power, blasting the Flames from every surface of her body. The Flames gathered against the darkened cloudy sky and pushed together to form the magnificent Phoenix.

The ponies that saw her were in awe... and fear. Those weak little ponies began to scream and run for their puny little lives. She dove as the Phoenix and burned a few to a crisp, charring their bodies almost instantly. She dove again, taking out a few more and leaving their horribly singed bodies to rot. She yelled for everypony to bow before her and most did.

One pony called her crazy. That pony was made an example of why you should never disrespect or insult the Phoenix. These powerless little servants were made to obey her. She laughed and commanded them to build a statue in her honour. It’s cliche but who cares? Are you going to tell her?

She led this village with more than an iron hoof. She destroyed their will to run and get help, controlling them with fear. She knew there would never be an uprising because she was far too powerful. Word of her conquest didn’t spread which meant that the rest of Equestria would not hear of her horrible deeds. Equestria had not yet realized what horrible atrocities had been committed. She ruled, no longer as Sunset Carnelian, but as The Phoenix.

Thanks for adding Dead by Sunset and Featherfall to your shelf! I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Achievement unlocked!

You earned the...

I normally have some sort of cute or funny achievement to give people for one of my works. Having experienced the worst depression I've ever been through coupled with a string of anxiety attacks while also experiencing homelessness, I can confirm that depression to the point of suicidal inclinations is no joke. I am literally only alive today because of my girlfriend choosing to be with me and keeping my depression from spiraling into suicide. I'm glad you're enjoying my story, please spread the word to everyone you know that depression is a real problem and there are resources if someone finds themselves in that particular place emotionally.

Thank you for planning on tracking Cry, Cry, Cry.

I loved it !! <3
