Two-Bit Magician

Please, tell me why I'm here. Writing stories? Okay, guess I'll do that.

I have to thank you for helping me think more deeply about the story I was creating.

And... I know this might be a bit much to ask... but when I finish my story's rough draft would you mind giving me your opinion on it? It's okay if you say no. I just need someone beside myself in on the creative process, and you sure seem to know what you're doing. :twilightblush:

Hm. Yes, it does.

To be quiite honest, the piece could be original fiction with a bit of adjustment. It kind of became a fanfiction because it started with an MLP OC that I created. Naturally, he got a short history, which I began adding to, and it became bigger and more detailed, and garnered more OCs and a history over the course of four months until I just said "Ok, I'm making this a story." The story hardly involves canon characters due to being set into the deep past. And I can't see a way of moving the plot of the story into any time period that involves the canon without some heavy revision. :trixieshiftright: Well. Perhaps it needs some revision. Hm. Hmm.

I suppose a shorter way of saying that is that the story became fanfic because MLP is the universe I created it in, and I didn't really ever think of changing that.

I guess that what I am saying is that original characters should be a reflection of the series and the values that it presents. People join fan fiction sites to read stories about the characters that they love. If you mean to present them with an original character, then they need to know why reading what could very well be a piece of original fiction rather than a fan fiction is worth their time. The good news is that there are plenty of examples of that happening. I can't really offer you an example from my own works, but consider this: When writing an original character, how do they best reflect the world of the original canon, and what mirror do they hold up to the reader that engages them in that character. I hope this has explained my point.

I think I understand. Maybe. What exactly do you mean by "However, fan made characters do have a place in that world, if they reveal something worth finding"?

Because my story doesn't really do much history work or headcanon spilling. It's really just kind of a sidestory of the Elements of Harmony's long past and the efforts made to protect it over the years. It's actually set long before the Mane 6, and the events in the story don't really affect much in the present day. I'm asking all these questions because I don't want to make any major mistakes and I want my first story to be as well-received as possible. :twilightblush:
