Once upon a time, Rainbow Dash read a book. She loved it so much, she read some more. She read and read and read, until one day she came across a story that seemed different to her. Something she could relate to. But it was incomplete, imperfect, fragmented; it was more fiction than fact.
Deciding that more ponies needed to hear this tale, Rainbow Dash decided to do something she'd never even considered before.
She was going to write a book.
But she knew it would be hard. And her past attempts at writing were... imperfect. So, of course, she enlisted the help of Ponyville's resident author.
And he's going to help her, whether he likes it or not.

Doctor Whooves. A name whispered in hushed tones in the criminal underworld of Equus. Whether or not that's his true name is unknown, but what is known is this: If he appears, you'd best shut down all remotely criminal operations, or else he'll shut you down in the name of Her Majesty. The finest secret agent in all of history. And he's getting sick of it.
Enter a mare named Derpy Hooves. At last, a way of escape has appeared! Now all he has to do is fly through time and space and hope that his former bosses don't come looking for him.
This is going to get complicated, isn't it?

For those wondering, the "present" in this story is about 1001 A.N.M. (After Nightmare Moon), sometime during season 1 or 2 of the show.
Also, this little continuity is not my actual headcanon about Time Turner as he appears in the show. That one's actually kind of boring.

1000 A.B.

1000 years since the Princess of the night was banished to the moon.
1000 years of plotting, scheming, and otherwise planning.
Nightmare Moon has kept a close eye on the goings on in Equestria, making sure that there will be no surprises upon her return.
The stars are at long last in alignment, and have agreed to aid in her escape.

And this time, the night shall last forever.
