Preparations for battle, way to the Temples of Harmony
When the battle had finally finished and King Sombra was deader than dead, the group went downstairs where the ponies were already waiting for them; so Midna turned Link and herself into wolf and imp.
“Okay, we took care of the dark sorcerer but still we have no idea how to fix this” said Link.
“We do!” Said Epona, winking Link. “And guess what: it involves dungeons!”
Link’s eyes widened.
“Did you say Dungeons?!” He asked waving his tail.
“I knew you would love it" Epona smirked. "And there’s more! They say this dungeons, the Temples of Harmony are really dangerous, with puzzles, monsters and all the things you love!”
“You can count with me and the Master Sword!" Link barked in delight. "What about you, Midna?”
“I helped you once to save my world, I can’t see why I can’t help you again. Besides now that I have my own weapon I can help you with the fighting and the puzzle-solving”
Princess Celestia just shook her head energetically.
“I don’t know what the four of you have been through" she said. "But the Temples of Harmony have nothing to do with it. No, these dungeons are designed for the Bearers of Harmony to prove themselves before the Titans. The puzzles will blow their minds and the dangers they’ll face will force them to push their bodies to the limit”
Link and Midna smirked.
“You really haven’t been to Hyrule, right?”
Luna had to stay on their side to this one.
“Sister, this is an offer we cannot refuse" She said. "Our new friends have proven themselves in battle against Sombra. Giving the Bearer’s condition we don’t actually have a choice”
“We’re always ready for everything” assured Fog.
Cadence stood with them as well.
“Aunt, without the Elements of Harmony Equestria can’t stand for too long;. If they’re willing to help us we better accept their help”
“You’re right! You’re right!" Celestia conceded. "So, where did you seal Sombra?”
“What now?” Asked Midna.
“Yes, tell us where you sealed him so we can go reinforce the seal and make sure he doesn’t get free again”
Midna raised an eyebrow.
“Seal? Don’t be ridiculous. We didn't seal him, we killed him”
Everypony looked at them in fear, did they just said they KILLED Sombra?
Suddenly Fi appeared out of nowhere and politely bowed to the Princesses.
“I know it sounds unpleasant" Fi said. "But killing the sorcerer assures a 100% chance that he doesn’t cause more trouble”
“Who’s this?” Asked Epona.
Midna shrugged.
“An old friend, long story.
“Oh, okay then”
“As I was saying" Fi continued. "When you seal an enemy the probabilities for them to escape are from 67 to 99.9%, in this occasions death is the only reliable option”
“You MONSTERS!" Celestia couldn't believe what she was hearing. "How can you just take a life and stand there as nothing happened? It’s horrible”
“We did what we had to! In fact that’s what we did last time the Twilight expanded with Zant and Ganondorf”
Celestia furiously walked to Midna.
“IF YOU’RE GOING TO KILL, THEN STAY IN YOUR REALM! HERE IN EQUESTRIA IS FORBIDDEN TO TAKE A LIFE, IT’S BEEN FORBIDDEN SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME AND EVEN A PONY LIKE SOMBRA DESERVES TO…”
Midna punched her with her hand-shaped hair, sending the Princess of the Sun to the other side of the room. Then the little imp simply floated towards her and took her by the mane.
“Now you listen to me idiot. Under normal circumstances, I would say you’re right and as long as we stay in your Kingdom we must do as you say. But currently your decisions not only affect your little ponies but the Twilies as well and as their Princess I must do what is needed to protect them. And if I consider a life needs to be taken I'll take it l so you better shut up and let me save my people, understood?”
Celestia looked at Midna’s eyes and then to her fellow Princesses, who looked away filling Celestia with disappointment. So they were really okay with Sombra’s murder? Indeed they were, especially Candace.
The Princess lowered her sight ashamed of the others.
“Just… let’s finish this as quick as possible, Midna of the Twilies. The sooner we finish this alliance the better”
“Agreed. So what should be our next move?” Asked Midna releasing Celestia.
“I guess getting into the Temples of Harmony” said Twilight. “Princesses, what do you know about them?”
“First you must understand something Twilight Sparkle, for millenia my sister and I had the task to watch for the Tree of Harmony. And a thousand years ago a prophecy was made announcing the arriving of the six of you, the souls that should bear the Elements when the right time comes”
“And how’s that related to the Temples?” Asked Epona.
“We didn’t knew where the Temples were until the Elements of Harmony awoke in the six Bearers. To be more precise, at the very moment they accepted their destinies… gaining their Cutie Marks in the process” explained Celestia.
The ponies looked at the Princesses.
“WHAT?!”
“Exactly" Luna nodded. "The Temples are at the places where you obtained your Cutie Marks”
Twilight couldn’t believe it.
“So that means there’s a hidden Temple in your Academy, Princess Celestia?”
“Exactly" The Princess of the Sun sighed nodding her head. "And also in the Pie family Rock Farm; the deeps Sweet Apple Acres; at the mountain where Rarity Belle had her first encounter with the jewels. The small forest under Cloudsdale and at Cloudstale itself. Everything was connected from the beginning. In fact, the Temples are nothing but a backup plan in case something happened to the Tree of Harmony”
“The Temples will test the strength of your Friendship along with the personal skills of you. It’s okay if you go inside together, but there will be some battles that each of you must face alone” explained Princess Luna.
“You mean the Titans…” mumbled Twilight.
The two alircorns nodded.
“So we will have to fight? But I don’t know how!” Cried Fluttershy.
“That’s why I didn’t want you to go into the Temples but I’m afraid we don’t have a choice" Celestia sighed before motioning to Link and his allies. "And at least these four are coming with you”
The visitors just smiled confidently.
“Of course!" They said at the unison
“So where do we start?” Asked Rainbow Dash barely waiting.
Twilight considered for just a couple of seconds.
“Easy: the Temple of Magic, if it’s true that the Temple is somewhere in Princess Celestia’s Academy that means that’s the closest one. Then we can go to Sweet Apple Acres to the Temple of Honesty. Then Kindness and Loyalty; and finally Generosity and Laughter”
“And probably the Twilight” observed Midna.
“Our chances of succeed exceeds 80% if we all stay all together” said Fi.
“Fine! Want to go now or would you prefer to rest a little until you recover your strength” asked Princess Luna
“Our lives are in danger so there’s no time to lose” said Applejack.
“I guess you’re right" Midna sighed. "Usually I prefer to have a little time before go into a dungeon or similar, but considering what just happened we better hurry”
Epona turned to Link.
“Ey, is it okay if at some point I borrow one of your weapons?”
The wolf seemed a little surprised but smiled to Epona.
“Sure, whatever you need old friend”
“Great!” Cheered the brown mare.
“During the fight I used 4% of my energy but I’m still able to handle 74% of the following battles on my own”
“I’ll do what I can as well” assured Sweet Fog.
“Then let’s move!”
Luna, Candace and Celestia just sighed.
“Unfortunately we can’t go with you, we have been forbidden to put even a single hoof inside any of the Temples”
“And what about me?” Asked Shining Armor.
Twilight shook her head.
“No Shine, stay with the Princesses, in their current state they can’t do anything in case of a threat, so they’ll need you. But don’t worry, Epona, Link, Midna and Sweet Fog are coming with us”
“That’s what worries me the most” said Shining staring tat the group. He didn’t mind about the therstal and the earth pony; but the hylian and the twili looked too suspicious to him. Not to say about the spirit who had just showed up.
Of course the warriors didn’t mind and advanced to Celestia’s Academy for gifted unicorns along with the ponies.
“Epona, for the third time, are you sure you don’t want me to help you carrying my own stuff?”
“No Link, I’m more than fine. This form may be smaller but is also stronger than my other one. Take it easy Link”
The group were wandering in Canterlot in their way to Celestia’s Academy for Gifted Unicorns, with Link, Fi and Midna in the front; the Mane 6 in the middle and Epona and Sweet Fog at the end of the line.
But Applejack looked at Epona and slowed her walking to be aside her.
“Epona, do you mind if A’ ask you something?” Asked Applejack.
“Sure, what’s on your mind Applejack?” Said Epona with a smile.
“There’s something A’ don’t fully understand, A’ heard you saying this isn’t your normal self. So what are you really?”
Epona sighed, she really hoped to avoid this conversation but apparently she had no choice.
“How can I put this? I’m taller and I’m not a pony but a steed” “
“Steed?”
“You see, in the world of Hyrule, my world, equines are just animals. Mostly used for transportation”
“What?! Link used ya’ as some kind of slave? Epona you must learn how to defend yerself from these abuses!!”
“Applejack, don’t blame him. Like I said, equines are nothing but animals back where I came from. And believe me: Link never used me against my will. Back when we lived in Ordon Village I was considered as a wild and untamable beast, the only persons I allowed around me were a kind girl called Illa and then Link. Illa was always nice with me, and Link… I have no idea what happened but we understood each other from the beginning and started to work together. There was no need for Link to force to anything. No, it was like we’ve met before. Then we learnt everything about the prophecy of the chosen hero and… I don’t know, my theory is that I’m the reincarnation of the hero’s horse”
“Still it isn’t right!” Protested Applejack.
“I know, but we Hylian horses never knew better. However back when the Twilight expanded to Equestria and Link turned into a wolf, we actually talked for the first time. He began to see the animals with other eyes, even turned vegan… and our friendship only got stronger”
Applejack looked to Epona and then to Link, who was chatting happily with Midna.
She would like to keep arguing about Epona’s condition, but at the time she was planning what to tell him, she felt something… it was strange but it felt like something good. It was the connection between Link and Epona. It felt as strong as the one between the Bearers of Harmony.
In the meantime Link and Midna were chatting happily with each other most for the Mane 6’s annoyance. How could they be so relaxed giving the circumstances?
“And tell me Link, how did you ended up breaking up with Illa?” Asked Midna playfuly.
Link sighed.
“I don’t know, but I can assure you I was the problem. Like it told you, I tried to get back to my life in the farm in Ordon Village… but I couldn’t. In the beginning Illa stuck with me and tried to help me adapt, we were happy… or at least she was happy. Even if I tried, I couldn’t connect with her like the old times, not anymore. In the end I had to leave”
“You’re really pathetic" Midna sighed. "Did you ever think of asking Zelda for a position in the army? Its the least she could have done after you saved Hyrule”
“I did considered it but…”
“But what? You know you can tell me”
Fi turned to them.
“I detect certain levels of evasion in Master’s speech”
“Thank you Fi!” Link groaned.
Midna looked at him worriedly.
“Don’t you trust me?”
“Is not that Midna! Is just embarrassing! You see, whenever I was in the Palace I couldn’t avoid thinking of you, how we met, how Zelda saved you. It was just too painful to remember all that knowing that probably I wouldn’t see you again”
Midna smiled warmly at Link blushing.
“I missed you too Link, I really did”
She gently stroked Link’s head when Twilight indicated them to stop.
“Here we are! My old school, Celestia’s Academy for Gifted Unicorns” Announced Twilight.
“Finally!" Midna smirked. "Now let’s look for the Temple of Magic!”
