Alex Weaver’s day couldn’t have been worse; an uncomfortable call from his mother, a surprise visit at work from his ex-girlfriend, and a trillion-dollar device exploding in his lab, transporting him to some frozen wasteland. Damn Mondays.
Nice handling of the first contact here. I'm definitely interested. And the we shall see what happens to future batteries when they get charged with wrong voltage and amperage.
Im a big fan of first contact stories, especially the ones with unconventional means of contact, so this is right up my alley. And quiet honestly, this does not feel like a "my first story" case, i dont know if youve written a ton of other stories before to gain this level of skill, but youre got quiet the talent in writting with Just the right amount of tell and show, good dialoges and good pacing.
So thank you very much for sharing your imagination with us, ill eagerly wait for the next chapter! :)
7957849 Thanks, but this actually is my first proper story. I've written pilot chapters and rough drafts to test out ideas, but never anything I intended to bring to completion. I do like to read a lot, though, which is probably why I can at least pretend to be able to write.
Besides, there simply aren't enough First Contact stories out there, so I couldn't not write this.
I was just thinking about this story when behold! A new chapter!!!!! I was over filled with joy! Oh please bring out another chapter quick! This story is awesome!
Oh, cool, this is still updating. Hopefully Alex doesn't feel too beholden to Shining Armor to pledge his obedience or anything (as is mentioned by a couple of lines during his fever dream), there's something about stories that go that route that I dislike.
I find myself mildly amused that despite gryphons being the only other significant species on 'Equus' (I guess since ponies took Griffonstone and everything they decided to name the planet after themselves too ), that the castle somehow still happened to have a few chicken legs on hoof. Actual occasional gryphon visitors, or somepony who actually eats meat around?
“I think the alien has proven he has no malicious intentions by not trying to attack us when he had the opportunity. Besides, what’s the worst that could happen?” he said with a grin.
The worst that could happen is somebody who isn't genre-savvy asking 'what's the worst that could happen?'
[walks up to author, gives massive hug]. Thank you, [wipes tear from eye], thank you so much. You've really warmed this linguist's heart. IPA for the win. Great story, hope you continue it. And the language disconnect is very fun to watch.
Hey! thought you should know the big news! recently I decided to choose the top 25 stories from my fav list. my list was over 370 stories.....O_O.....damn. well it was a painful experience, being so many awesome stories I've come to love not able to make the top 25. but in the end I was able to pick my top 25. So it brings me great joy to tell you this story made my Top 25! congratulations! ^_^
We are approaching the anniversary of this story's inception. I wonder if perhaps we could get a chapter or two to commemorate the occasion?
When I'm reading this, it really feels like I've picked up a sci-fi novel. Even among the few stories here that truly fit the First Contact style you're going for, this story stands out with an addictive and polished quality to it.
To write such an addictive story and then cut us off just as First Contact is being established, the author of this tale must be quite the sadist.
8153367 Again, much thanks. Feels good to know people enjoy my work.
About the delay, I'm afraid life has been rough lately: exams creep ever closer (), and I'm desperately hunting for a job in my economic disaster of a town to pay for a new computer and BronyCon this summer. Throw in that I've taken up a sport in the hopes of remedying my motivation problems, it turns out I can't afford to stay up into the wee hours writing (how I did the bulk of the story thus far).
But fear not; my drive to write is alive and well. Not a day goes by since publishing my latest chapter that I haven't thought about advancing the plot. With any luck, I'll find the wherewithal to continue soon, and I'll be damned if I don't get something out by June.
Ever changing and with new challenges. One thing I can say is that you should never give up. Sounds stupid and I know you haven't really.
Just that sometimes all of those other things can side tracked you until it doesn't matter any more. But again judging from your comment I don't really think that's an issue now.
Also I am very glad I rechecked/reread this. Not a bad story at all. Pretty rewarding with it's technical complexity and no magical macguffins.
I am looking forward to June... FYI No pressure. But my birthday is 18June and after a minor surgery... Haha.
Hope they've got wifi down there, because as it turns out, the only thing more insufferable than an eternity of damnation, is an eternity of being pestered for story updates.
More chapters please. is very good story.
I am definitely liking this story, please keep it up

I suppose flames will ensue.

I need more of this story. I'm really really loving it so far.
I'm particularly happy that you're going with hard-mode on the language barrier in your story.

I was afraid this story was dead, but the new chapter said otherwise.

8205071 I bet they've got internet, but everyone's routed through a shoddy old DSL modem, and the repair-guy's on perpetual break.
As for the story...
