Enjoying this so far, but why make spike hike 15 miles if they set up base at the train attack site to start with? Surely they could've just met spike there, if they were already taking the time to collect bodies.
6740709 Spike had the locator beacon that the platoon would use to find the location easily. It would have taken them twice as long to find the spot if they did not have a beacon to follow. Time is of the essence. Also, it is the drivers of the waiting chariots that were tasked with bagging up the bodies for transport, not the rescue platoon itself.
6740771 I get that, but they landed and had a ceremony/speech for the fallen at the wreck site. Celestia also told spike where to go. He didn't find the camp, Luna did. Spike wasn't locating things, he just followed the map, same as the rescue squad could have done.
Sorry, I don't mean to make it sound like this is horrible or anything, but it just really stands out as a weak point in the plot right now, like you're trying to shoehorn him into the scene for some reason, when a sane rescue op would never ask an injured civilian to trek miles on his own just to be a few hours AHEAD of the military backup who have the same map/info.
If you really want spike to be critical, then invent reasons why he's the only one that can sniff out the camp. Maybe have him get himself "captured" with the beacon spell on him in order to finally pinpoint things. It's not that your idea can't work, just that spike's importance to the plan is not at all explained in the actual narrative as it stands.
6740850 It would have been easily another four to six hours had they not had the beacon to follow. Yes, Luna was the one to locate the site of the camp, but they had an opportunity to get a beacon there for the platoon to follow. Makes for faster traveling.
Also, there will be another reason for this. Be patient and see what happens.
Well.
That just happened.
With how much that has happened to her I do hope twilight survived.
Aw, and here I was hoping the major would be captured for some good 'ol fashioned military justice.
