You Can't Take Sweet Flight From Me

Take my bits, take my land,
Take me where I cannot stand,
I don't care, I'm still free,
You can't take sweet flight from me.

Take me out to the Crown,
Tell them I have fallen down,
Burn the barn and boil the sea,
You can't take sweet flight from me.

Leave my ponies where they lay,
They'll never see another day,
Lost my self, lost my dream,
You can't take sweet flight from me.

I feel the Crown, reaching out,
I hear its song without a doubt,
I still hear and I still see,
That you can't take sweet flight from me.

Lost my bits, lost my band,
Lost the last place I could land,
There's no place I can be,
Since I've found this Harmony.

And you can't take sweet flight from me.

Author's Note:

Just a prologue.

For the record, this story and another story by the name of "Of Defenestration" are both set in the same world at the same time but with different characters in different locations. Confuzzled yet? Perfect! Just a heads up, as characters from one story will meet characters in this tale at times, and the major arcing events of this tale, such as who the big bad is, is the same in both stories.

I could have had both stories together and switch POVs along the way, but I said "nope" and decided to do whatever I wanted.

Also, this is an homage to Firefly by Joss Whendon. No, it's not a crossover, I just used some of the same archtypes as he, but didn't steal any major plot points. Heck, if you're attentive you'll see plenty of pop culture nods in my work here.
