Review: Persona (1966) · 11:52pm Jan 30th, 2016

Persona is most definitely one of the most singularly amazing yet bizarre and disturbing cinematic experiences I've ever had. It's a disturbing, slowly unwinding nightmare of imagery and meaning, carefully woven together by the one and only Ingmar Bergman.

Spoiler Free Review: Captain America: Civil War (2016) · 5:21am May 6th, 2016

Captain America: Civil War is, to put it simply, the best film the MCU has given us so far. Picking up in the wake of the utter complete disaster that was Age of Ultron, Civil War works not only to restore the damage that Age of Ultron caused, but also follow up on the remaining plot threads from The Winter Soldier, while also laying groundwork for Phase Three of

Review: A Star is Born (1954) · 2:11am Sep 11th, 2015

George Cukor's 3 hour musical drama is not only one of the best musical dramas of the 1950s, but also holds two absolutely astounding performances by legendary performers James Mason and Judy Garland.

Review: Heathers (1988) · 2:52am Aug 18th, 2015

Heathers stands as one of the most diabolically insightful and venomous black comedies I've ever seen, that takes the standard self-righteous teenage comedy/drama that John Hughes and his ilk produced and brutally deconstructs it in a fantastically demented way, and I love it so much for that.

Review: Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) · 5:10pm Jul 4th, 2015

Note: This review was written yesterday, but FIMFic has been giving me trouble on my phone, so I'm posting it today.

Well that was a let down.

In typical Dreamworks fashion, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas is a dishearteningly generic affair that has a minimal understanding of character development, and a complete disregard for the original Arabic Myths that it was based.

Review: Beasts of No Nation (2015) · 5:16pm Dec 30th, 2015

Cary Fukunaga's brutal, intense and uncompromising study of the life of a child soldier is an astounding entry in an already astoundingly strong career, and a moving, deeply intimate and tragic look into a corner of the world that is often neglected.

Review: Bronson (2008) · 3:17am Sep 7th, 2015

Bronson is director Nicolas Winding Refn's intentionally flamboyant and over the top portrait of the equally over the top, flamboyant and animalistically violent British criminal Charles Bronson, who has spent more then 35 years of his life in the British prison system, almost all of them locked away in solitary confinement due to his wild explosions of extreme physical violence.

Review: Southern Comfort (1981) · 5:01am Apr 18th, 2016

Southern Comfort is Walter Hill's stripped down and brutal survival flick that, while perhaps not has streamlined and direct as his 1978 masterpiece The Warriors, is still an assured film with it's own strong aesthetic and identity, and in a way, feels almost like a deconstruction of The Warriors, sharing many of it's quasi-mythical archetypes and themes, albeit in a more cynical, brutal package.

Review: Bridge of Spies (2015) · 12:43am Jan 30th, 2016

Director Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies is, like many a Spielberg film, a remarkably understated, yet impeccably solid piece of cinema, that tells it's story in a stately, respectful way, while also creating a finely tuned character piece, and ultimately, an homage to the very core of the American spirit.

Review: The Red Shoes (1948) · 10:08pm Aug 8th, 2015

The Red Shoes is a film that, while having several incredibly good scenes, is unable to properly gel these scenes together, and therefore suffers.

Now, let me first highlight the great parts, since there are quite a few:
