Gift of The Maud Pie Review · 5:40pm Apr 2nd, 2016

Season 6's big theme at least in terms of marketing appears to be "Explore Equestria" and usually it's the third episode of each season that establishes the underlying narrative accompanying various episodes of the season (though sometimes that isn't the case). For this episode, we have our first RariPie episode of the entire show, along with the return of Maud and Manehattan. So, with an episode titled after the old story "Gift of The Magi", did all of these ingreidents blend

Scaring Is Caring [episode spoilers!] · 3:28pm Oct 31st, 2015

Stupid fuckin’ Discovery Family not showing last week’s episode. Again. :| We should petition them to stop being such fuckups with this show, except I’m pretty sure it would accomplish nothing. So what the hell is a “windigo-frosted snow cone”? Are they still around? Are they helping the ponies now, or just held in bondage? Anyway, if there’s anything I don’t like about Hearthbreakers, it’s the stuff before they get to the rock farm. Unnecessary HWE recap aside, Applejack’s just

A Flurry of Emotions Review · 4:58pm Apr 22nd, 2017

So we've finally got a Flurry Heart episode, and one that apparently many people were really looking forward (I wasn't one of them). Personally, I don't mind Flurry Heart, but there's really no reason at all why she couldn't just be a powerful unicorn. And I've already expressed my opinion that there's not much the show could do with her that couldn't be done with the Cake Twins. The writers for this episode are the first of the new writers for this season, and as it turns out

Hard to Yak Anything [episode spoilers!] · 7:00pm May 21st, 2017

Well, my friends have gone back to Baltimore, so I can get back to a regularly irregular watch schedule. Got a lot to catch up on! :B

As for the yaks, they're pretty high on my "didn't need to see this again" list. I mean, even if you like them for some reason, when was the last time we saw a Diamond Dog outside an EQG short? Point being, I enjoy the nods to continuity, but they're a little scattershot.

Episode reviews and star ratings. · 11:47pm May 10th, 2014

My star rating system.
1~5 I hated it, it was terribly written or it did something that I can’t morally agree with.
2~5 I didn’t like it, it was poorly written or just boring.
3~5 I liked it, it was well written and entertaining but overall average quality.
4~5 I really liked it, it was well written and entertaining and did something unique that made it memorable or special to me.

A Matter of Principals and The Hearth's Warming Club Review · 5:32pm Aug 4th, 2018

Just when you thought the leaks and early airings were done, they're back with a vengence. It turns out that "Yakity Sax" did not air out of order, it was just a special preview for whatever reason (why it instead of "A Matter of Principals" is anyone's guess, they could've then kicked off the second half proper with this and "Friendship University" to take the edge off of Australia's early airings). But now episodes are airing early again in Australia, just like "Discordant Harmony" and "The

The Washouts Review · 5:11pm Sep 8th, 2018

With Australia now airing the finale the early releases are finally starting to come to an end. And meanwhile the show is going through a really weird phase on Netflix where they keep bumping back the expiration date (though as of now only Seasons 1-4 are still available, Seasons 5 onwards have been removed, and it's only for the U.S. not overseas). Anyway, I'm still tagging this with spoilers for those who were waiting for the official U.S. airings for whatever reason. Nick Confalone penned

What Lies Beneath Review · 4:35pm Sep 22nd, 2018

So at long last we have an episode actually focused on the student six without any of the mane six also being involved, and it's only a few episodes away from the finale. Well, I guess better late than never. Michael Vogel came back to write this episode, but considering his last writing endevor was the disappointing mid-season finale "The Mean Six" which squandered the concept of Chrysalis' revenge with the cliche "Evil Clone is mistaken for the real thing" trope that we've seen done to death

The Last Laugh Review (Spoilers for American Fans) · 5:24pm Jul 7th, 2019

Well, any hope for the second half of the season not to be leaked is officially dashed. It wasn't a mistake that China aired this episode early, it turns out they've got the second half all wrapped up and delivered to them for dubbing. And like with Italy, the official English version pops up not long afterward. And they show no signs of stopping, so chances are the series finale will be upon us even sooner than we might have thought, which will make avoiding spoilers really difficult. But even

Dragon Dropped Review (Spoilers for American Fans!) · 7:02pm Jul 22nd, 2019

Someone I communicate with on Discord planned to see this episode, so I decided to go ahead and see it too. I'm still not going to see the season (and series) finale when it inevitably comes out early, even if the waiting will be hard. I still want to go into the finale blind. But of course, especially since this is the first episode so far to get an early release with no synopsis or any other information, you know what's coming.

It Isn't The Mane Thing About You Review · 4:38pm Sep 16th, 2017

Well, it turns out the episode order for September is a lot more jumbled than it seemed. Episodes 17-22 are airing out of order, the production order is: "Daring Done?", "A Health of Information", "To Change A Changeling", "It Isn't The Mane Thing About You", "Once Upon A Zepplin", and then "Marks and Recreation", before it gets back to normal with "Secrets and Pies" as episode 23. Anyway, when I heard about this episode, I wasn't looking forward to it at all. First because the synopsis sounded

Uncommon Bond Review (Spoilers Abound, Beware!) · 9:35pm Oct 9th, 2017

After "Secrets and Pies" was a disappointment in every way despite my low expectations, no way was I going to wait around to find out if the season picked itself back up again before the finale. I should mention that apparently Hasbro did get hacked, so not only did the remaining episodes of Season 7 get leaked, but so did a whole lot of stuff related to the show including the show bible (details of it were made public from various interviews given by Lauren Faust and the show staff long

The Parent Map Review · 4:31pm May 5th, 2018

We've got our second map mission of the season, and still no episodes since the premiere that directly tie into that school theme. I'm starting to think this is like Season 4, where they hinted at an overarching narrative in the first three episodes, then backed out and tied a few loose episodes together for the finale. If they didn't want to do an overarching theme, that's fine, they just shouldn't have advertised it as such. It generates false hype, like you're afraid the season won't work on

Marks for Effort Review · 4:30pm Jun 2nd, 2018

With just two episodes to go to the mid-season finale, this school theme is finally coming back into play. And it's just to introduce a character we already know is going to be the antagonist for the finale, and it's not focused on any of the student six.

Common Ground Review · 4:47pm May 4th, 2019

Kicking off what looks to be a pretty promising stretch of episodes, we have the return of Quibble Pants and the return of buckball. Of course the real highlight is that Patton Oswalt isn't just back, but he's also brought along his wife and his daughter to be guest stars for this episode (his second wife, I should say. His first wife died unexpectedly in 2016, he remarried a year later). And it seems they won't be the last, though as of yet I don't know if it's been officially confirmed if

Going to Seed Review (Spoilers for American Fans!) · 9:45pm May 27th, 2019

With every episode up to episode 13 having been aired in Italy, they also had a reliable translation service ready to crank out the English episode (most likely, Hasbro exports the English version to other countries and then they redub the material for their countries. It's like a reverse anime dub). However, that also means that for those who want to wait for the episodes to hit the airwaves, there's a ton of spoilers! Naturally, although it goes without saying:

Season 5 Episode 13: The Gang Fights PTSD · 10:04pm Jul 20th, 2017

Seriously great episode but seriously. First of all, I don't know why I stopped at episode 12- maybe that was the newest one or maybe it was just a bad run of episodes before this but this episode is awesome.

Dream magic is awesome and I have loved the idea of a dreamwalking Luna since she did that a few times but this is another level.

Bit childish though going from a Y7 rating to a Y that's kind of disappointing.
