    Well...

*Sigh*. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, I voted for Harris and before that was voting for Biden, and yes it was because of Trump. Everything he said he would do, said he would be, everything that would've gotten any other candidate rightfully disqualified. And after all of that, he won anyway.

Special Re-Review: Equestria Girls: Holidays Unwrapped

Today is actually the five year anniversay of this special hitting the airwaves, making it the last official G4 content. And it has since come to light that this was not meant to be the grand finale for "Equestria Girls" as a whole. There were plans for a third season of the shorts series, which would've culminated with a special answering the nagging question of whatever happened to the human

Happy Birthday, Peter New and Tabitha St. Germain

Today we have not one but two separate birthdays for voice actors: One is for Peter New and the other is for Tabitha St. Germain. Peter New is the talented man who voiced Big Macintosh, Dr. Whooves (also called Time Turner), Igneous Rock, and a host of other smaller characters across all nine seasons of FiM. Tabitha St. Germain, meanwhile, needs no introduction: She is the talented woman who

Episode Re-Review: Growing Up is Hard to Do

G4 may be continuing, to an extent, in the IDW comics. It's been confirmed that we'll be getting a comic series focused on the origins of Princess Cadence in 2025. Meanwhile, a G5 pitch bible reveals that there were plans to explore additional pony types like bat ponies, and as was speculated was going to explore Skyros, the place where Celestia and Luna would have come from. 2025 will be

    Episode Re-Review: Daring Doubt

After all that, "Tell Your Tale" of course ends on a filler episode rather than something that resolves the lingering plot threads, though it could be because the cancellation was so abrupt that they had no time to plan for it. Time well tell if we get a G6 or what it might involve. Meanwhile, Hasbro is adding more and more episodes of FiM to their official YouTube channel, with their most recent

The Last Crusade Review (Spoilers for American Fans!) · 6:19pm May 29th, 2019

This one is especially important to have the warning for, because there are details revealed that make a HUGE difference! You know the drill, if you're waiting for the episode to officially air in the U.S.

So we have our first (and possibly only) CMC group episode of the season, and it's written by Nicole Dubac herself. Yes, the very same Dubac who penned "Uprooted", "Marks for Effort", and "A Matter of Principals", as well as the first part of "School Raze". So that's not exactly a good omen for this episode. "Marks for Effort" in particular was an insulting episode that at first had the CMC acting unbelievably selfish, and then shoehorned in a climax that saw Twilight sink to a new low by accusing the CMC without any proof and not giving them a chance to explain themselves. Still, considering what goes on to be revealed in this episode, maybe Dubac was able to somehow redeem herself? Well, let's find out.

We begin with Skedaddle rushing out to find the CMC, and they're staying at Scootaloo's house. Skedaddle has finally earned his cutie mark in knot tying. But the bigger surprise is that we finally get to see Scootaloo's aunts (though the episode doesn't really do much involving their relationship, if not for the "Ponyville Mysteries" books I don't think anyone would've even known about it). Aunt Holiday seems to sort of recycle the model for Mrs. Cake, and Auntie Lofty looks like a slender version of Stormy Flare (I thought it was the other way around with Lofty being the thicker one). Lofty's much more of a homemaker, knitting a quilt and leaving cookies out for Scootaloo and her friends. They pack up and leave with the announcement that Rainbow Dash will be coming over to watch over Scootaloo and her friends. But as soon as they leave, Derpy drops off a letter that announces her parents will be coming home to Ponyville. So that means the headcanon of her being an orphan has officially been debunked for good.

Scootaloo is too excited to sit still in class since her parents are going to be coming home, and we learn that her parents are famous adventure ponies who travel all over the world. They study rare plants and rare animals for the benefit of science and medicine. Kind of have to wonder if they've ever crossed paths with Daring Do at some point, even if she was in disguise.

Suddenly, a crackodile bursts into the classroom and starts making a mess, threatening the students. That is until a super strong pegasus duo come in and wrestle it, and manage to subdue it. They're revealed to be Scootaloo's parents, her dad is Snap Shutter, and her mom is Mane Goodall. And Snap Shutter has an Australian accent, so I guess you can say he's a crackodile hunter.

Class is dismissed afterward, and Scootaloo's parents invite her to have ice cream sundaes with them (her friends come along too). It's there that they reveal they've taken up a new job that will have them move to Shir Lanka (or something like that), all three of them. They're going to have Scootaloo come along as well, threatening to break up the CMC. Apple Bloom hosts what's likely to be the last meeting, and the CMC start breaking down into tears. Rainbow Dash shows up, unable to read the room, but soon learns what the trouble is. She convinces them not to give up so easily, and Apple Bloom decides they can use the few days they have to try and get Scootaloo's parents to stay (or at least not take Scootaloo with them). First they try to set up a fake monster since her parents hunt only the most rare and exotic of creatures (I guess they originally moved to Ponyville, or lived in Ponyville specifically to hunt the creatures of the Everfree Forest, then moved away after they hunted everything there was to hunt). It goes about as well as you'd expect.

After that they try to use their cutie marks as we see that Snap Shutter has an old fashioned photography studio and dark room (which is how photos used to be developed before cameras could do the whole process in an instant), but he points out how their cutie marks aren't actually exactly the same and turns their logic against them. Then Apple Bloom tries to bind the CMC together with a potion she mixed up with Zecora's help, which works all too literally. In a last ditch effort, they chain themselves to the post outside Scootaloo's house. When that too fails, Scootaloo finally snaps at her parents and says they're not giving her a choice. Then she runs off to the train station, intent on going to live with her aunts so her mom and dad can't take her with them. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle come with her. Kind of surprised three fillies are allowed to travel by train all on their own. Anyway, they reach the cottage Holiday and Lofty are staying at, and they inspire the CMC to do something else. Said something else is arranging for Ponyville to host a huge celebration and ceremony as part of Cutie Mark Crusader Appreciation Day. Hey, it works better than Pinkie Pie Appreciation Day.

The CMC get a special triple key to Ponyville, and Skedaddle presides over a speech that's all about celebrating the CMC's milestones. Even Gabby and Terramar show up, although if we're being honest the CMC didn't help Terramar very much. The problem was kind of in his head to begin with, and it was his parents who more or less solved it (they probably weren't intentionally making Terramar think he had to choose, but especially for a child the actions of their parents can convey a lot).

Scootaloo's parents realize that much as they have their important jobs that they can't quit no matter how much they may want to, Scootaloo's involvement with the CMC is too important to make her leave Ponyville. And Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty then reveal that they've bought the house, so Scootaloo can live with them if she wants to, and she does.

And that's the story, so what do I think of the episode? Well, even though it invalidates my countless headcanon stories I've written involving Scootaloo's family, I think her parents are quite nice. Snap Shutter and Mane Goodall feel like more developed versions of Sky Beak and Ocean Flow (they weren't bad, but we only got little snippets of their personalities that mostly involved them being proud of their respective heritages), and the timeline is left vague enough that you can draw your own conclusions about how long they were away and how long Scootaloo has been in the care of her aunts. Much like "Student Counsel" this feels like a celebration of how far the CMC have come, though admittedly that one had less filler (the crying scenes here dragged on for longer than needed, and some of the stuff afterward was really predictable). I'm still miffed that they could only manage a non-speaking cameo from Diamond Tiara, this could not have been a more perfect opportunity to use her one last time. Make her the one who gives that speech about how important the CMC are, it wouldn't have been much but surely a few lines wouldn't have broken the budget. Also, I have to wonder why Snap Shutter and Mane Goodall would bring cages of dangerous animals to school, just because they wanted to see their daughter. While they don't address Scootaloo's potential disability (I'm thinking it's more or less confirmed as of "The Washouts" but they never outright said that was the case), finally seeing her family long after they should've been introduced or mentioned (where the heck were they in "Flight to the Finish"?) is a nice touch. However, I do have to deduct points for the obvious fact that neither Snap or Mane thought about what Scootaloo would want before they took up the job, let alone consulting anyone else for advice. But I appreciate the realistic resolution, showing that most often a parent or parents can't simply abandon their job just to be with their children (especially if the job pays well). In the end, I give this episode a solid B+, putting it just below "Student Counsel" since as I said that one felt like it had less filler.

Now, I'm thinking I probably will watch and review "Between Dusk and Dawn" tomorrow, simply because I've covered all the other episodes so I might as well. It's basically "A Royal Problem" type of episode, the royal sisters are the focus despite it technically being framed as a different episode (not sure why they still need to do this in the final season, especially when "Horse Play" proved that a princess could hold the spotlight on her own).

Frankly, I think it's about time they fully reveiled her family. I still wonder if she will learn to fly.

But what I wanted to know, this won't conflict with your headcanon of SCoots family, right? I love that idea, as much as the father being a Royal guard idea

5066374 Well, I have one fic I'm going to work on soon that will more or less put that head canon to bed for official fics. I'll probably still keep it around in whatever AU fics I've already written them in, particularly my "What If?" series as there's no way I can reconcile the differences between show canon and head canon there (especially since I gambled on the comics design for the aunts, and now their designs are different).

5066377
Okay, but it's still nice to hear you won't abandon it just because of that. And I think in the stories with her aunts, you did show them very well

5066378 It can always live in the form of Scootadopts. I actually had wanted to do a Dizzy Twister one, and now the idea for one has been dropped into my lap.

5066382
You read my mind! I had exactly that thought when reading your first reply. And apart from alt universe where she's Scoots biological mother, a stepparent always suits

I'm thinking it's more or less confirmed as of "The Washouts" but they never outright said that was the case

And until it's outright stated, I will continue to believe that she WILL fly eventually.

For me, this is the second best episode of the season so far, and the third best episode of the series as a whole.

5066384 Didn't even think about that, but that could work as well. I've already written Spoiled Rich as a step mother in one fic, so I could do the same for Dizzy Twister if an idea ever came to mind.

5066386 I believe so too. There are far too many ways to get around in it a world like Equestria: Transplants, corrective surgery, magic spells, or even artificial implants. Heck, Scootaloo could probably build something that could simulate flying if she really wanted to, just takes the right amount of inginuity and know how.

5066390
Indeed. There are plenty of ideas. For example, Dozzy being her foalsitter when her parents are traveling and aunts are busy, seeing Scoots as own daughter due to a tragic accident that leaves her unable to have foals on her own. Or is her biological mother that gave Scoots to adoption, into the hooves of the canon parents.

Or, a common mistake, she got mixed up in the hospital.

And I agree about flying, I took a unique idea in my story, although it's a dark one

5066390
Or, for all we know, it's some kind of repressed trauma or something that happened to her when she was even younger.

I love what they did in this episode. I really do. I love that they added Scoots parents. But I can't help but feel like Hasbro is saying: "Oh yeah.. they've always existed. They've always been there. They've just been traveling." And I'm like: "Yeah that may have been true but all you implied was that she was an orphan and maybe homeless"

5066491 Well, they left it kind of vague how long her parents have been away and how often her aunts have been housesitting. Plus, it seems like lots of ponies were always spending the night with Scootaloo (the Cakes, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash) were all mentioned.

I am glad that they put it out there that Scootaloo has a family. It took them longer than I would have liked, but I am happy to get closure on that notion.

While I agree that parents should consult their children about things like moving, I also have to point out that with the way Scootaloo seemed to idolize her parents, which feels a bit contradictory, given how she mentioned in Parental Glidance, no one really gave her much motivation, but back on the original subject, I feel in the parents defense, they more than likely figured Scootaloo would be thrilled to go with them to begin with, with how excited she was to see them.

I also liked that Scootaloo's parents didn't just make a quick speaking role appearance in one scene of the episode, and than just disappeared off the face of the earth, to make random background appearances at most, like Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents do. (Seriously, I wonder if the show will ever touch base with the parents of Rarity and Sweetie Belle again. I've already forgotten their names if they had any.)

This also cements the confirmation that Scootaloo does not have a sibling, and clears up why she looked to Rainbow Dash as a sister. And while I have nothing against same-gender couples in the show, I do wish we could get more straight couples in the show among primary, secondary and tertiary characters, of the show, and not just some random background couples. I mean, I am curious, what happened to Flash Sentry, and how come there's no longer a crush going on between him and Twi. Flash Sentry seems to have fallen clear off the map.

And no I don't think him and Flash Magnus are related, even distantly by generations.

I'm getting off subject again. The episode was enjoyable, and like you said is more of a filler, but I feel that once all the Scootaloo fans see this episode, half of them are gonna mention her Dad's an Earth Pony, and that's why Scootaloo can't fly, even though evidence has shown biological parents of Pegasus foals to be of a different pony race. Look at the recent episode "Common Ground" With Quibble Pant. He was dating a Unicorn Mare with a Pegasus daughter. And she had nooooo trouble flying, so I'm gonna be stating that case when I see those theories come forth.

With her flying at this point, I feel it was more, lack of early teaching, since both Scoot's mom, and her Aunt Lofty seem to want to stay grounded with their Earth Pony family. Basically, mom was off on adventures too dangerous to be with her daughter to teach her, and Lofty seem content on the ground with Holiday, she probably figured it's no big deal if Scoots stays grounded, since she's has aunts, friends, and parents who love her for who she is.

One thing I hope the show doesn't dive into is trying to use Scootaloo being half Earth Pony, half Pegasus as a bullying tactic, like how Malfoy used Hermione Granger's fact she had non-magic parents to give her name that is considered foul in the Wizarding World. Though, now that makes me think of something for the Scootaloo forum.

I'll also, admit, while this does make my stories of Scootaorphan non-canon, it's not gonna stop me from making them, should I get an opportunity to finish them. It just now can't be seen as "possible canon".

But I think I've rambled enough. I was satisfied and found some good closure with the episode, even if some moments were cringy.

5066644 Sweetie Belle and Rarity's parents have only been named in the trading card game: The dad is named Hondo Flanks and the mom is named Cookie Crumbles. And yeah, I really wish they could bring them back for something, anything that show them being actual parents. Their entire existence feels like an afterthought.

5066665
Yeah, I mean, if they could do that with Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents, there's no reason the same couldn't have been done with Scootaloo's parents in earlier seasons. Just from my point of view at least. As for Daring Do, I have some strange feeling that she is another one of Scootaloo's aunts. I have no proof mind you, but it's an idea itching at the back of my head. It would be hilarious if Rainbow Dash introduces Daring Do to Scootaloo, and Scootaloo is like "Oh hey Aunt Daring, you know Dash?"

XD

The shocked look on Dash's face would be priceless.

5066693 I more personally would suspect Daring was a long lost relative of Rainbow Dash. I just can't get over how similar they are. Like maybe she was either Bow or Windy's older sister?

5066793
Remember when I theorized Daring was Dash's mother? XD

I saw this episode in English on a free cartoon site today.

To be honest, the thing I was less than impressed with was the incorporation of Scootaloo having lesbian aunts, and not just because I don’t think homosexuality is a good thing either.

And yes, I know that they originated from the “Ponyville Mystery” series.

I feel the same way.

However, I do have to deduct points for the obvious fact that neither Snap or Mane thought about what Scootaloo would want before they took up the job, let alone consulting anyone else for advice.

Back when I was growing up, you were expected to go along with whatever decisions the parents made. You didn't get a choice. Nobody cared about what you thought because you were to be seen and not heard. Parents are always doing stuff like that, because you are seen as a child and therefore your opinion has no value and is not valid. Again, this goes back to the "kids are to be seen and not heard" thing. At least that's what it was like back when I was growing up. Not sure what it's like for kids today.

5066491 As far as I know, Hasbro has nothing to do with that. That all comes down to the writers who work on the show.

5066644

like Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents do. (Seriously, I wonder if the show will ever touch base with the parents of Rarity and Sweetie Belle again. I've already forgotten their names if they had any.)

5066665

And yeah, I really wish they could bring them back for something, anything that show them being actual parents. Their entire existence feels like an afterthought.

Agreed! :pinkiehappy: I miss them!

5069424 :rainbowhuh: I'm confused. Are you saying that you would have liked that the show Incorporated the fact that her aunt's were gay? And do you think being gay is a good or bad thing? That part was also confusing too. It seems unlikely that they wouldn't have brought up this fact, especially as how they have had plenty of gay characters on the show before. (Steven Magnet, Fashion Plate, just to name a few.) It's also odd seeing as how Arthur recently did an episode where Mr. Ratburm came out as gay. No, I'm not kidding! But I can see why they didn't.

It was great to finally see Scootaloo's parents! I agree with wishing that her parents would've talked to Scootaloo more about her opinion their new job. I'm also guessing that CMC Appreciation Day was approved thanks to a certain purple alicorn. It was also nice to see the creatures who were helped by the CMC (Especially Feather Bangs and Bab Seeds). At first, I thought the episode was going to end up with the lesson of the change of moving away but I'm glad Scootaloo could stay in Ponyville.

Having finally seen this episode I can safely say that I absolutely hated Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood. We've seen some horrible parents in the series thus far, but I truly think these two take the cake in terms of worst parents ever!

5076336 Really?! Worse than Hondo Flanks and Cookie Crumbles who dump their youngest daughter onto their oldest daughter at the slightest provocation just so they can go on vacation?! Worse than Spoiled Rich who verbally (and possibly physically) abuses her only daughter to further her own social standing?! Worse than Mr. and Mrs. Shy who did nothing to help their daughter overcome her crippling anxiety and let their youngest son walk all over them time and time again?! Worse than Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles who coddled Rainbow Dash to such a degree that she never learned how to handle losing?! Worse than Firelight who so coddled his only daughter that he made it impossible for her to cope with her only friend moving away?!

Snap and Mane are practically saints compared to all those examples. At least they kept in touch with their daughter and had trusted authority figures watch over her while they were away.

5076340 At least with those examples the parents are actually there for their children. Snap and Mane, on the other hand, dumped their responsibilities as parents onto anypony who would take the job and chose their careers, which they clearly felt was much more important, over their own daughter's happiness. Then, when they are guilt-tripped into visiting their daughter and tell her that they're moving, they act as if she's being unreasonable when she understandably refuses to leave, don't care about her feelings, and don't bother to comfort her when she runs off crying. These two are extremely selfish assholes. Yeah, the other parents might have their faults, but at least they were actually present in their child's life and didn't abandon them to be raised by someone else. I swear, the only good parents who are present in this show might be Pear Butter and Bright Mac.

5076463 Hondo and Cookie seem to have barely been in Sweetie Belle's life at all, and Spoiled Rich seems to have made life worse for Diamond Tiara almost single hoofedly. How can you say that's better than Snap and Mane just because they were there?

5076465 We've seen Sweetie Belle hanging out with her parents on numerous occasions. ("One Bad Apple", "Inspiration Manifestation", and "A Hearth's Warming Tail" all immediately come to mind.) And the worst that Spoiled does to Diamond is yell at her and spoil her, the former of which is something all parents do with their kids from time to time, at least in my experience.

Snap and Mane, on the other hand, did nothing but neglect their daughter in favor of their careers.

5076493 I'm pretty sure what Spoiled did goes beyond simply yelling, she pressured Diamond into just about everything. "The Pony I Wanna Be" implies Spoiled has bossing Diamond around for as long as Diamond can remember. And yeah, we have seen Hondo and Cookie in a few cameos, but that's it, just cameos. Heck, "Forever Filly" strongly implies Rarity has been more of a parent to Sweetie Belle than they've ever been.

Are you saying Snap and Mane should've taken Scootaloo with them on their adventures? Or just upended their entire lives just to be with her? You know that either one is worse than what they ended up doing. They have lives too, and their work is very important. They document rare creatures and plants, which is often how civilizations develop new medicines and learn to better co-exist with nature.

5076496

Are you saying Snap and Mane should've taken Scootaloo with them on their adventures?

Knowing Scootaloo, she would probably have enjoyed that. It would've been fun for her.

Or just upended their entire lives just to be with her?

Yes! That's exactly what they should've done! When you have a child, you have to think about what is in the best interest of your child, not yourself, even if that means getting a job that's closer to home! Hey Arnold taught this lesson brilliantly! On one hand, you have Arnold, whose parents decided to give up their careers because they cared more about their son's well-being than they did about making money and furthering their careers. It was hard for them to say goodbye to their son when they had to go back to San Lorenzo for ine last mission. Helga's parents, particuarly her father, were the complete opposite. Her father couldn't be bothered to be concerned about Helga because he was too busy building up his beeper company, and her mother was the classic example of an alcoholic. When Helga's mother took over the company in one episode, she became like her husband, caring more about her job than she did her daughter's well-being. In fact, Helga's parents barely acknowledge her existence because they're too busy showering their eldest daughter with praise and affection.

You know that either one is worse than what they ended up doing.

The former, maybe, but I don't see how the latter could be worse than abandoning their daughter and dumping her on somepony else so that she'd be their problem and not theirs. No wonder people feel like Scootaloo would've been better off as an orphan, especially if this is the way she's treated by her parents!

They have lives too, and their work is very important.

If your lifestyle doesn't afford the time and luxury to have a kid, don't have one! Or, if you do, put it up for adoption.

They document rare creatures and plants, which is often how civilizations develop new medicines and learn to better co-exist with nature.

I am certain that they're not the only ones who do that. Zecora's job could be described in much the same way, as she lives in the Everfree Forest and therefore presumably knows all about rare plants and animals, the latter of which she uses to create medicines. If anypony could tell the citizens of Equestria
how to better coexist with nature, it's her!

5076557 Ah yes, taking a little filly all around the world to dangerous locations, I can't begin to imagine how that could go wrong!

Yes! That's exactly what they should've done! When you have a child, you have to think about what is in the best interest of your child, not yourself, even if that means getting a job that's closer to home!

That's the entire reason they got the job in Shire Lanka in the first place, they were going to have Scootaloo go with them and they'll all be together! Parents can't just up and drop everything for the sake of their child all the time, they have jobs that need to pay the bills!!

No wonder people feel like Scootaloo would've been better off as an orphan, especially if this is the way she's treated by her parents!

Again, we have seen other ponies as parents who treat their children far worse than Scootaloo. Snap and Mane were willing to give Scootaloo a chance to say goodbye, they told her she could come back and visit Ponyville at least once a month, and they were willing to admit they were wrong. Yet somehow they're the worst parents ever despite evidence to the contrary, and despite there being far worse examples in the show! Do I think they're the best parents ever, no. There are tons of parents better than them. But they're nowhere near as bad as so many people say they are!

5076726

Okay, here's the thing. They abandoned their daughter and dumped her on somepony else to take care of. Then, nine years later, they show up out of the blue and tell Scootaloo that they're relocating her to a new place without giving her a choice or any say in the matter, like "This is happening whether you want it to or not." Had this episode been all about Scootaloo calling them out on this and learning the lesson of forgiving those who have made mistakes and hurt you in the past or had this episode been about her parents apologizing to her for being away and trying to make up for lost time, only for Scoots to resent them for hurting her in the past and wanting nothing to do with them, this episode would've been fine. (Or, you could easily fit those two ideas into this story rather nicely.) But the thing that really kills any enjoyment I might have had for this episode is them showing up out of the blue and expecting her to move without giving her a say in the matter of without taking her feelings into consideration.

And, really, the only parents who I can think of that are worse than them are Filthy and Spoiled Rich.

Parents can't just up and drop everything for the sake of their child all the time, they have jobs that need to pay the bills!!

Yes, having a job and having money and being able to support yourself are important, hut being there for your child is more important than having money. You have to be able to take a step back and say, "Okay, what's in the best interest of my child?" If that involves getting a job that's closer to home so that you can be there for your child, so be it.

It was awesome that we finally got to see Scoots' parents, albeit quite a bit later than what we would've wanted. The water works were a bit much, but they did play it decent on the trope of parents moving without their kids having a say.

I’m gonna be honest about this:

This was honestly one of the worst episodes I ever saw. And what angers me about it the most is that Scootaloo has terrible family figures who are terrible at being a family. Even her aunts.
