Hello Pippsqueaks. It’s your favourite princess here. I’m taking over Pineta’s blog this week.
This time I won’t be talking about my new songs or hot news from the palace. You can find that on my usual channel. Today I’m going to talk about the sparkling science of luminescence.
Somehow, I have managed to write a physics-themed blog post for every Make Your Mark Chapter 4 episode. This has been an interesting science writing exercise, if nothing else. And now, on the eve of the Chapter 5 release, we get to the final part. The bit you’ve all been waiting for. It’s time for an update on the Muon g−2 result.
In these dark and divisive times, can I avoid controversy and blog about something light-hearted?
360 degree tour of CERN's Large Hadron Collider
Best watched on a phone or tablet so you can pan by moving your device.
Last week saw some exciting news on the experimental search for dark matter. The LUX and PandaX experiments have released some new results. Spoiler alert – they haven’t found it.
The finale of Chapter 5 nicely leads us to Dark Matter Day (31 October, also known as Nightmare Night), the time of the year when we celebrate the invisible component of the universe. Time for an update on this darkest of contemporary physics research topics.
Celebrity endorsements by cute cartoon cats are good for any project. This week Symmetry Magazine reports that Hello Kitty is helping to promote the International Linear Collider.
This week we learn that operations at the Large Hadron Collider have been set back after a small weasel chewed through wiring on a 66 kilovolt transformer.
High up in the Brighthouse cupola, Zipp, Sunny, Izzy and Pipp stood bathed in the rainbow light field surrounding the unity crystals.
Continuing my random commentary on Make Your Mark, Chapter 4…
Unlike some fans, I thoroughly enjoyed the new dose of Make Your Mark. Eight episodes of ponies being ponies, with extra glitter, was just what I needed this week as a distraction from the reality of Britain under our new Prime Minister. I’m pleased that the general quality has picked up again. After the brilliant start with the movie, the Chapter 1 special was a little underwhelming, and while fun, Tell Your Tale never really goes beyond a cute side show.
Zipp’s folding phone feels like a joint marketing opportunity with Samsung that wasn’t fully realised. Her cool hoofset has something like their Infinity Flex Display, which can be literally folded in half, but the shape is more like the Galaxy Z Fold series than a Z Flip (“Zip”) phone.
Here is my spin on MYM Chapter 4 Episode 3. Will I manage to write a random blog post to accompany every new episode? At the current rate, I just might get Chapter 4 done before Chapter 5 comes out. Unless I get distracted by something else. Let’s go into a story of mystery, cryptic messages, relationships, and rules that don’t make sense; and tell the tale of the Proton Spin Crisis.
They may live in a small town in a remote part of rural Equestria, yet the ponies of Hope Hollow are an innovative lot. We saw in Rainbow Roadtrip that while ‘hopeless magic’ made them see themselves as an impoverished colourless backwater, they could actually play a full part in Equestrian culture with their well-stocked library, high-tech cottage industries, and rainbow festivals.
Sunny Starscout rolled down a slope, with wheels on all four of her hooves. The conversion of gravitational potential energy to kinetic energy caused her to accelerate towards her four friends. She leant to one side to bend her trajectory to circle around them.
HELLO dear readers, this is PINKIE PIE, your Pony Friend Forever, Party Planner Extra-ordinaire, and fully qualified Nuclear Reactor Engineer. I'm writing this blog post as Pineta is away this week, which means I have a chance to tell you about sub-atomic physics and my favourite particle the neutron.
