Friendship is Card Games: Micro-Series and Friends Forever #9 · 12:39pm Jan 15th, 2017
This week, the spotlight’s pointed at some secondary characters, with new creations and old grudges on display. Sounds like fun to me.

Happy New Year! Let’s start it right. And by “right,” I of course mean “with trading cards.”
One could argue that I should be doing something from the main comics, but I feel the holiday special counts. Besides, this lets me delay some of the more egregiously stupid storylines for another week, which is definitely a win in my book. So, let’s take a look at two stories of friendships in trying times.
Princess Celestia and Pinkie Pie. There'd better be cake. Written by Christina Rice and art by Jay Fosgitt? The words "as hit-and-miss as an auto-shotgun held by someone on a trampoline" comes to mind.
Luna and the CMC? How can this go wrong? ...Jeremy Whitley, Jay Fosgitt, Heather Breckel. Well if you wanted to actually screw up this concept, that's about the best chance you could give it.
Well, this worked out nicely, didn’t it? Just enough time between seasons for me to get to and wrap up the FIENDship mini-series. In this final week before the Season 7 premiere, let’s take a look at things from the antagonists’ perspective.
FIENDship is Magic: The Many Tales of Queen Chrysalis
It’s back to the sequential grind for the next four weeks. Funnily enough, Season 8 will start just before I get to the first comic storyline that ties in with Season 7. For now, though, we have a pony thanklessly dealing with a demanding, cantankerous soul. Also Shining Armor and Prince Blueblood.
It’s all about pride this week, from Applejack defending the sanctity of her orchard to two of the show’s biggest egos colliding and collaborating. Let’s see if these issues have anything to be proud of.
This week, we have one of those awkward one-shot main issues wedged between an even number of one-shots and a multi-issue storyline. Thus, we’re going half-and-half on this one and throwing in a Friends Forever as well. Let’s begin.
This week, we’re focusing on some of the more unusual characters. Whether through species, tribe, or humor, these characters are far from the average pony.
This week, it’s all about addiction and consumption. Whether it's power or pastry, enough is never enough. My next batch is almost ready; let’s look at the raw ingredients that went into it in the meantime.
This week is all about leaders, underlings, and two very different management styles. Let's compare and contrast.
Welcome to the sixth interseasonal hiatus, ladies and gentlemen. For those of you joining me since the second half of Season 6, I’ve long since run through the backlog of past pony episodes (easily findable through the archive here,) so I’m making my way through the comics. This week, it’s side comics, with Rainbow Dash’s micro-series issue and the CMC/Discord team-up. Let’s take a look.
We’re sticking with the side stories for a bit to bring things to some semblance of parity. As such, this week, we have Rarity on a commune and a team-up between two of the most important people in Twilight Sparkle’s life.
Two more weeks of side comics before we cut back to the main storyline. Right now, we have an art competition and a haunting to look into.
This week, we have one of several issues that directly connect to Season 7 episodes, along with the penultimate Friends Forever. Let’s begin.
Be advised, there may be a new episode coming this Friday at 2 PM. It’s clear that Discovery Family’s “Summer Surprises” is code for “lol what’s regular, predictable scheduling.” On a similar note, today’s comic took me off-guard during my scheduling.
A day late, but hopefully not a dollar short. Let’s make this last card blog of the intraseasonal hiatus worth the wait.
Hello, all. I'm deviating from the main series this week to at least start the other comic lines; the first issues of both the single-character-focused micro-series and the two-character-focused Friends Forever line. Let's see where this takes us.
Luna. One true princess of the night, candidate for best pony, unquestioned best princess. She of the abacusshipping, the moonbutt, and the dreamwalking.
Discord. Lord of Chaos, recurring guest voice actor, fountain of fan speculation. Counts Kefka and Sheogorath among his peers. He of the mysterious past, the reality warping, and the pop-cultural references.
They come together to give us a comic.
Hoo boy. This issue of FIENDship is going to be rough. At least there’s something to else to mitigate it. Now, which Friends Forever is this…
Oh.
Ladies and gentlemen, this week’s theme is scaled frustration.
