This thread's for talking about things that should be in the FAQ or new FAQ's you'd like to do before actually posting them. What do you think needs to be in the FAQ? The roleplaying ban, the nsfw ban, what you can be banned for, how heat works, and more stuff on how groups work come to mind, but I'm sure there's other stuff.

Also, how about the way it's grouped and formatted? Maybe it should really be multiple faq's?

I was expecting a list of handy links somewhere in the group. Links that lead to those months-old blogposts and the like that you've had to search for in the past. Perhaps with an explanation of the "changelog" that went on. The whole NSFW thing makes a good example. There are blogs that state different things as Knighty went along through some... ideas. The idea being that it would help someone have the whole picture of all these fragments, and guide people towards the most correct "rule" until the official rules section is posted.

What we need isn't just a FAQ, we need a complete rule section that clearly defines what is 'illegal' (by fimfiction rule) and what the punishment for each of them is. Not necessary as formal as the law is, but we need them to be clear.

Of course, that may sounds like a pain in the ass. But we really need to make things clear. One official rule page that defines all the rules, all punishment handed out will be according to rule page.

No more will people wonder what they can do!
No more will they be unfairly punish!
No more will they wonder why they were punish!!

Thank you very much. I guess I didn't find the link to it at that time.

Could you clear up some of the gray zone on nsfw links in groups?

If your group deals with mature-rated subject matter, be sure to mark it NSFW in the Group Options.

Do not post NSFW images in groups, even if the group is marked NSFW.

Is it ok to post NSFW links (assuming they do not make an image link or direct link to an image) in a NSFW group?

Marking a group as NSFW does not mean you can post porn/mature content or any links to such at all. This is not allowed on any part of the site.

The only exception is linking a Mature story posted on fimfic only in a tagged blog post for a mature story.

Is there any way a sentence can be added to the rules that states that you can't link to mature stories in group posts, and another that says roleplaying isn't allowed? It's a lot easier if things are spelled out explicitly, and the roleplaying ban doesn't seem to be mentioned. Both could easily go into the group section, and it'd mean less arguing between group admins and members...

The big ones are these two:
http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/299306/role-playing
https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/240121/the-great-nsfw-purge-of-2013

If you list other things I mention that are not in the official faq, I'll try to give you links when I can find them. Hopefully the rules post will cover most of them, though.

So any link to NSFW isn't allowed in a nsfw group either? Linking to a NSFW stories is banned too?

Is the rules ex post facto? Are we removing all old post with links and are the posters going to be punish thanks to the new rules?

Personally I think a little 'grandfather right' should be given to exempt post made before the rules are made. It would be a annoying if people just start digging into old threads and reporting them one by one.

Just to mention, that NSFW rule has been in effect since Nov 6th, 2013. Anything posted after that has just been a case of the admins and mods not being everywhere at once, and the posts not being reported. It's not really a new thing, it just didn't have an easy place you could find the rule, other than that one blog.

I do kinda doubt they'd do more on posts from a long time ago that are reported now then pm you saying "for future reference", though. I'd imagine it'd be at the moderators discretion.

Here's a useful image with rules clarifications in it I came upon.

It'd be nice if knighty did the sitepost mentioned in the comment.

I can already see people overloading the report system with old posts and stuff. Because a quick search I did reveal half a dozen group that is against the rules.
Since the point of the nsfw policy is to ensure the ads keep the site running, it would be wise to report and clean up all of the old post/thread that may be causing problem.

I can already see the mass panic that may or may not happen from the may or may not happen cleanup.

I need to find a good spot in the faq for this:

Link

I'll probably make an "Unofficial Main FAQ: Rules" thread at some point and add it there, but I think it should be in the Groups FAQ too, by an item about creating them. I'm mainly posting this here as a reminder that it needs to be added to myself, though.
