Sorry if this one's setting is confusing; I wanted it to be as interesting and engaging as possible.

1980-The Equestrian Continent, including Eqeustria and all of the other nations on it, fall into the Indian Ocean. There are several with the three most powerful being Equestria dominating the South and part of the Southwest, The Griffon Kingdom in the North, and the Changeling Empire to the East.

1981-Overcoming the initial shock, the events of Earth continue on and make the most of things. The USSR attempts to influence the Griffon Kingdom (being the closest of the three to Communism) while America and its NATO allies attempt to influence Equestria. China, hating the Capitalists most, but also on sour terms with Russia, goes for the Changelings. Each is met with different kinds of reception.

1983-The nations generally begin to align themselves. Products, technology, and other things are exchanged. When NATO offers to sell downgraded and obsolete military equipment to Equestria, the leaders, including the Princesses, are offended as there has been no real war for many years and fears it will only cause tension.

1985-Equestrian spies report that the Changelings and Griffons have not been so conservative, and their militaries are receiving human equipment. However, though the reports are accurate, they are not entirely enough to give the Princesses enough to buy modern weaponry. Equestria’s military leaders all agree it is necessary, and secretly begin buying smaller equipment, such as small arms, and training their forces.

1987-Large numbers of human settlers have made their way to the continent by now, receiving varying welcomes. Some, such as the Equestria, welcome them totally. The Crystal Empire is lukewarm to the idea, preferring them to stay in certain areas, Griffons only allow certain individuals, and Changelings are strictly Changelings, as humans are resistant of the Hive Mind from their free will. This results in several different ideas on the subject, as ‘Native’ groups wish to see them gone and are willing to take up arms against them, while some humans that arrive actually begin guerilla operations against a government or opposing group. There are even some joint Human-Creature groups that fight. Soon, there are dozens of these groups fighting for one reason or another, and the continent begins to turn violent.

1989-As the Cold War begins to relax, discoveries are made of the weapons on both sides. Most of the leaders on the continent blame the ingress of weapons for the violence, even Celestia is angered at the U.S. for sending weapons, which they refuse to refund and take back. Other groups and nations blame humans entirely. Eventually, all contact is severed between the Equus continent and the outside world, and the humans there are treated in different ways for this, and one settlement of humans is attacked and wiped out by a ‘Nativist’ group. A joint U.S.-Soviet mission is launched with airstrikes and ground troops invading and wiping out the group based in the volatile Zebrican Republic, much to the anger of all on the continent, but to the joy of the humans on both sides. All the same, subversive activity continues to rise as a result.

1991-The Cold War officialy ends and Human relations are relaxed to an all-time low. Conversly, the Equus continent is now the most violent place on the planet, as the many subversive groups are armed with modern equipment. When the Gulf War ends with the Liberation of Kuwait, Celestia and the more moderate nations see humans as far more kind than originally thought. Relations are restored with the outside world and the militaries on both sides are modernized (again by the respectful influencers) and begin to combat guerillas with great affect, whilst keeping humans and eqquans alike safe.

2001-As a result of the September 11th terrorist attacks and other acts in recent history, Guerilla operations are on the rise in the continent to their highest yet. The militaries continue to fight them, with each nation having different outcomes. The superpowers are able to control their groups for the most part, the Crystal Empire and the Minotaur Republic have some trouble, and places like the Zebrican Republic are in near civil war.

2007-As the Recession hits the world economy, and as the Equus continent has yet to experience such a major downturn in its time on Earth, it is hard hit. Things only go downhill from there. The Griffons invade Equestria to seize their land completely, but get bogged down quickly. The Crystal Empire, usually able to keep things in check in their land, begins to suffer heavily from concentrated nativist groups, the largest being one known as ‘The Pure Crystal’; U.S. intelligence heavily suggests that the group is supplied, and possibly even manned, by the Changelings, but the Crystals are determined to take care of it themselves. Again, humans are blamed, and though no drastic measures are taken (such as isolation) like the last blaming, relations sour between all of them.

2010-Due to the constant conflict, weapons sales have kept the major human powers relatively afloat; Russia, not caring any longer for Communism, but only for that of making a profit, is the greatest profiteer. The current U.S. President truly wishes to see peace, but the U.N. declares that since the continent is alien, they will not intervene or allow membership. Though he tried and the general Pony view of NATO increases, Equus still holds humans to varying regard.

2012-As the Recession begins to lift completely, war still rages. The U.S. and NATO offer Equestria military support to secure their borders, while Russia and China offer the same to their respective allies. All of the Equus nations only accept if they stay to totally defeat their enemies, which all three superpowers refuse, much to their ‘allies’ annoyances.

2014-By now, the human world powers grow tired of the various nations playing ‘hard-to-get’ for their respective allying. Though it shouldn’t matter, each want their influence on a land for resources, control over humans in the area, and other things; but all the same, they also want to bring peace to the land. The Equus creatures wish for complete Independence, but cannot hope for it with so many humans inside and constant fighting among themselves.

Modern Day-In a simultaneous, though unplanned, series of orders, the human nations decide that they will begin influencing Equus nations in more unorthodox ways. Multiple special operations groups are sent in with various orders and missions. Some will go after insurgent groups, others will fight the military; some will be ordered to have their involvement known, others must carry it out as if they were never there. The Equus Special Forces will be fighting them, helping them, or carrying out something entirely different. The fate of many lie in the hands of these troops; but despite the importance, their actions cannot be known

NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY AS ONE OF THESE; YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICHEVER COUNTRY YOU WISH. I JUST WANTED TO LIST THESE TO MAKE THE SETTING CLEARER. THEY CAN BE THESE, CANADIAN, AFRICAN, ZEBRICAN; WHATEVER YOU WISH.

Humans:

United States-The country that wishes peace the most, they still wish to draw Eqeustria and other nations in as allies; but no longer of the petty Cold War type. They wish to bring complete stability so that their humans, and other creatures who live in the area, to be safe. Of course, they do wish to establish lucrative trade agreements and other ‘pros’ to becoming friends with them and their NATO allies.

People’s Republic of China-Wanting to gain full control over the continent, economically, militarily, or otherwise, China puts it’s eggs in the basket of the Changelings. Hopefully, they can establish their own little ‘Block’ Empire to challenge the world.

Russian Federation-Though they still support the Communist Griffon Empire, the Russians are in this for money alone. Whether that means peace or war, they want to keep the Empire as an ally. They are not directly hostile towards the U.S. or China, but will fight anyone who stands in the way of their goal.

Equus:

Griffon Empire-One of the few Communist nations left, they are at war with Equestria and wish only for it to be annexed into their nation. They are rather aggressive towards humans, only allowing ones with the right ‘mindset’ to live there. They also have a fair share of subversive groups against the state.

Equestria-Though it wishes for its Independence from all influence, the new world of globalization shows that they can be friends with everybody or get left behind; they’ll need help to win the war. They are kindest to humans, having the most number and allowing them to roam free. Though they have a few subversive groups, most are just nativist or anti-nativist usually kept under control.

Changelings-They wish to conquer the entire continent, possibly even the world, under the hive mind; though they are technical allies with the Griffons, they will be on the hit-list eventually. They have no tolerance for humans, not allowing any in country. However, due to this and the strict control, they have almost no subversives.

Crystal Empire-Though they would rather side with the Americans than China or Russia, it is not by much. Despite being Equestria’s ally, they do not assist in any war, focusing mainly in securing their own internal lands from various groups, including The Pure Crystal. They are lukewarm towards humans, preferring they stay in specified areas.

Other Equus Nations:

Zebrica-A relatively small, neutral nation bordered by Equestria and the Griffons, it was economically ruined by the recession and completely collapsed into a civil war with factions vying for control. The Government has no real power to do anything other than defend the capital with what military they have left. Attitude to humans is lukewarm.

Minotaur Republic-A border nation with the Crystal Empire and Changelings, it also carried a number of insurgents funded by the Changelings. They did not fare as well as their neighbors, with their own civil war breaking out and the insurgents taking the capital. However, the situation is a bit more under control, with two definite sides; the Republican forces loyal to the government, and the ‘Native Bulls’ group. Their attitude towards humans is a bit uninviting, as most that came into the nation joined the insurgents, and the Republicans see them as pure trouble. Still, they are not overly-aggressive towards them.

Unit: 1st Spotter & Commando Operations Troop Squadron; also known as SCOT Squadron. United States Air Force.

Specifics/Type: Normal Commando operations along with black operations; specialize in pinpointing targets for stealth airstrikes.

History: An Air Force ALO (Air Liaison Officer), basically a fighter pilot with a helmet and rifle, is attached to ground units to direct aircraft to target. SCOT Squadron is made up of such ALOs who have seen combat, and have been sent to train alongside other various spec ops units so that they can be just as deadly without fire support. After 9/11, the Air Force wanted to get its own top tier ground unit; just as the Navy had SEALs and the Army had Delta, the Air Force created the SCOTs to work in cooperation. Though they usually kill targets with help from covert air strikes, their training along with their SEAL and Delta brothers make them a force to be reckoned with no matter the situation.

I'm torn between People's Liberation Army Special Operations Forces and GROM. On one hand, GROM has some cool shit, but the SOF has some cool stuff too.

Name: Orion

Unit: Equestrian 5th Echelon

Specifics: Anti-Spec Ops agent, specializes in silent assassinations. Proficient in most weaponry, Human included, but enjoys using more unconventional weaponry.

History: At first glance, Orion is your standard issue pegasus with no outstanding traits. However, beyond those warm and caring eyes lies the heart of a unforgiving and cold killer.
The cause of her and 5th Echelon's existence was the threat of attacks by insurgents and/or the Griffion Empire and Changeling Empire.
Orion's new mission entails seeking out Human Special Operations units thought to be in Equestria, and either enlist their country's help in keeping back the Griffins and Changelings, or to erase them if they refused to cooperate.
With the weapons at her disposal, it wouldn't be hard.

2676889 You have equipment that was dated back in 1980, probably hasn't been maintained in years, and think you can take down a platoon of Chinese special forces? How exactly?

NocturnalEagle
Group Admin

2676903

0) Assumption costs you points and lives, so keep quiet and listen.
1) Pegasai are naturally faster than humans.
2) In close quarters and with the speed advantage, Orion would get some of them, then dash off.
3) She smaller than most, and with wing blades outstretched, she can cut through any that try to stop her without stopping to fight.
4) Her armor, while light, has since been upgraded to deflect bullets. Since freaking 1985.
5) She's fighting on her home turf, and would have studied every nook and cranny for five days before engaging in an attack.

NocturnalEagle
Group Admin

2677043

We were just verbally sparring, but yeah. Another point in my favor.

2677018 You can't deflect all the bullets, plus that armor sounds pretty OP.
You talk about assumptions, but where the hell would they be that could be QCB.
Chinese use gas. They have gas masks. You don't.
You can't out run a bullet, let alone 4 men firing them at you.
A decent team is going to have at least one marksman hanging back.
Rocket to the chest.

NocturnalEagle

2677068

Bulletproof vests plus magic. This ain't normal anymore.
I think a crack squad wouldn't enjoy living on the fields where they can get picked off by snipers from other countries. Orion will engage only in a city or town.
Orion would suffer from gas for a bit, but gas is just another part of air. She's a pegasus, flying away, even in a pained state shouldn't be hard. Or she could, oh I don't know, flap her wings and push the gas back? Crazy, right?
You can't, but speeding blurs tend to throw off aiming.
Same problem, speeding blur.
If you can aim at a speeding blur, be my guest.

2677055
I'll allow the armor if it A). logically slows her down a good deal while wearing it (not to a sluggish degree, but one that her advantage isn't as useful as normal, flying still allowed) and B). can only take a certain amount of punishment, and a logical amount based on the munitions type being fired at her.

Unit: Coast Guard Deployable Operations Group (CG DOG); United States Coast Guard

Specifics: Maritime Counterterrorism and Security, Disaster Relief, Ship Takedown/Seizure, Intelligence-cued boardings

History: First created in July of 2007, a select group of Coast Guard cadets were selected to attend BUD/S to become special operators for the Coast Guard. They are not a part of SOCOM, as they are a part of the Department of Homeland Security.
In the conflict on Equus, they have been tasked with targeting important shipments to the Changelings and Gryphons and taking down the vessels, occasionally going onto land to sabotage equipment there. The DOGs are not to be found out attacking the ships, and must use stealth to perform their operations.

Typical equipment: M4A1 Carbine w/ Holo sight, IR laser, and suppressor; Sig P226 w/ suppressor and IR laser; IRNV goggles on helmet; Dragonskin Armored Vest
Operations-Specific Equipment: Draeger Lar V rebreather; M84 Stun Grenade; Smoke Grenade; Breaching Charges; M203 Grenade Launcher

Coasties gotta get some love, too.

2677101 Fixed it.
Plus, I said what kind of team would put themselves in CQC? Plus, this isn't CoD. Bullets will go through most buildings, especially Equestrian ones.
Additionally, bulletproof vests don't deflect bullets. They absorb the impact, and you will still crack a rib from even a low caliber round hit. Plate armor has improved a lot since 1985 as well, so logically even with Magic, modern stuff would be just as good.

2677117 Oh yes, I love the Coast Guard personally.

NocturnalEagle
Group Admin

2677130

Well, it's more of like...

Periodic. Orion will fly right next to the soldier, and CQC him with her wingblades, sharp edges molded to the leading edge of her wings, then take off and run like hell. It's effective, but not to the point of direct killing. Orion will play more of a game of long attrition.

Name: Stardust Rapture
Unit: 1st Royal Scout Division, Equestrian Royal Reconnaissance Regiment
Role: Specializes in intelligence gathering and reconnaissance, but due to the nature of their type, is also employed as a general commando unit, capable of adapting to numerous tasks. Effective at supplementing conventional forces if need be.

Current operations are divided between doing routine insertions into Gryphon airspace and over the homeland of Equestria on recon flights. Awaiting further orders, including to cooperate with any allied forces.

Operates alone or in Royal Scout detachments.

Carries an array of cameras during recon flights, and a knife for self-defense.

Has a preference toward human weapons. Even combat knives not designed for ponies. Managed to procure a Mk 14 EBR, modified by Equestrian arsenal toolers for equine use. Carried only during applicable missions, i.e., not recon flights. Also has a personal liking towards M1911-pattern pistols.

Standard to all Royal Scouts, he has an ARCANE implant- Augmented Reality Cognition Assistance Neural Enhancement. There's a lengthy file regarding the ARCANE, but to keep it short: A crystal plate implanted in the brain. Serves as sort of a brain 'rewire' for more efficient and faster thought process. Connected to the occipital lobe, allowing modification of visual sensory input; thus, Royal Scouts can see in an augmented reality vision; it's an HUD in the brain, basically. In no way does the implant affect muscle movements; it's still entirely up to the pony to do that, the only difference being that they have a faster reaction time to do so.

For the curious, this is all pre-established info.

Maybe if he's excellent at tracing a dust trail going at roughly MACH 4.

2678341 >Mach 4

2678519

Well, I'm sorry if you don't grasp actual physics regardless of whatever BS universe you live in.

The Grey Pegasus
Group Admin

2678813
Nah, I was in the same exact argument a while back. 2678519 is somewhere around right; she doesn't even get past Mach 1 IIRC when you examine the shots of RD's supposed fastest flight in the simplest way possible- measuring the actual speed using the frames, like a high speed camera test.

NocturnalEagle
Group Admin

2679158

True,

If you had the start and end points, the actual distance, the humidity, the temperature, um... The wind resistance, then sure! You could theoretically accomplish a high speed camera test using her fastest flight in 'Sonic Rainboom'.

Whereas in physics and actually doing correct math with measurable variables like the angle of the cone, you can prove she was flying at more than 4 MACH.

The Grey Pegasus
Group Admin

2679275
There's a 3-5 second long scene where she's going perfectly vertical chasing after Rarity and the Wonderbolts, just before they hit the ground, which is well past the Sonic Rainboom part, and assuming she's not slowing down after the Sonic Rainboom. The person I talked to measured it using this scene, using length measurements calculated through the length of ponies and applying said scale to the entire thing.

I'm going to attribute the cone and rainbow shockwave to something of a more magical nature. I'm not denying the work done through physics if it were the only way, but I'm going to believe what I can actually and readily see.

I was never really sure of the speed. There's been reports here and there. The biggest I saw was Death Battle's estimates that when at full speed in the sonic, she reaches Mach 10....... Like hell. Though she does break the light spectrum by doing it.

I never really cared who was fastest anyways; any good fighter pilot can beat her in a duel, racing is for children.

The Grey Pegasus
Group Admin

2680271
Calculated visually, she doesn't get past Mach 1. The sonic rainboom is not the sound barrier; maybe it's the barrier where a pegasus outruns their flight magic, or something along those lines (magic compression through force output?). That's the headcanon I came up with.

Besides, I'm sure the SR-71 would like a word about the perks of being the fastest.

So? TNB's character was a blank sheet of paper with few real traits to distinguish/remember him by. No one complained there.

Eagle
Group Admin

2680670
I didn't say his character was a Marry Sue, nor did i say it was constantly screwing up. It... basically isn't a character to me. So little dialogue, didn't say anything all that memorable, didn't talk about music, movies, food, culture, didn't personally do anything different (besides that excuse for correcting Mr.Z and Railroad on a small error and saying he was listening in on them like the NSA) and didn't even show that much shock or reaction to the Equestria appearing that i remember. He's a good military guy, but a cliché military guy with military traits that don't show him as anything more than a normal grunt. He's a machine in the worst way possible. Don't forget about how his ship was basically untouched until the latest chapter after i told him to write like he had a challenge.

Be honest, it's the same thing that happened in Battleships are Magic. I liked the story, but i can't even remember, much less care about, the captain and crew as there were so few things to remember them by; the only one i remember is the engineer having a Southern Drawl.

And you on the other hand choose Somali Pirates, and you actually try to make them funny and give them some characteristics; i thought you did better than him.
