    Across the generations

Something happened earlier this week that got me thinking.

Even though I have all of G4 on my computer and can watch any part of it any time I wish, back on monday on a whim I clicked on the official MLP stream on youtube. I found myself dropped into the middle of Magical Mystery Cure, just before A True True Friend started playing, and I watched through to the end of the episode.

Wrote a thing · 11:23pm Sep 26th, 2022

Wrote something on a whim. It crossed 1k words, so decided to publish it on a whim and see how it goes.

I make no commitment to continuing this, or even to leaving it up, either in its current form or at all.

I will continue writing it when and if the whim to do so strikes me.

At least you gave me warning...

*saves to harddrive*

I certainly am intrigued by this story. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Very nice adaptation. How are you finding the game?

I finally finished the Core b-side a few days ago. I think that's as far as I can hope to get with my ability, the c-sides and Farewell require far more control over the advanced moves than I can grasp.

Also the game is wonderful.

That's what they all say until they get a spontaneous craving for gameplay on a random weekend. :ajsmug:

Also, it is indeed an excellent game. Not quite my all time favourite (Hollow Knight holds that crown) but undeniably a modern masterpiece. Games are a uniquely interactive form of art, and it's nice to see them taking wings in the hands of indie devs.

Hollow Knight is so damn good.

I wish I could be sure Silksong is ever going to escape from development hell, but alas, I'm not.

Hate to break it to you but in spite of the terrible news you thought I was going to unleash with that lede, a recent Xbox announcement explicitly stated that Silksong is scheduled to be released early next year. No development horror stories here methinks - in fact, if you think about it, the entirety of Silksong has been developed within the span of 7 chapters of the Swirliad. :pinkiehappy:

It's going to be the first game I ever buy on launch, and if they release the collector's edition simultaneously I'll be buying it right off the bat instead of starting with the ordinary edition. I have a sneaking suspicion that Hollow Knight was just the devs warming up - they built the whole first game on only $57k of crowdfunding and a few Game Jams worth of development experience.

How far did you make it through Hollow Knight? I've only made it through the first four B-Sides of Celeste myself, I'm sure with enough skill to make it through to the Core B-Side you've blazed a trail through Hallownest.

Well, here's hoping. I'm afraid the years that passed without any signs of life made it seem like things must not have gone well behind the scenes :applejackunsure:

I have completed all of Hollow Knight, yes - minus Godmaster, I'm not big on challenge bosses. I want to explore a beautiful world and find secret passages. Hollow Knight is maybe the only game where I've wished I could erase it from my memories so I could explore it for the first time again..

Hopefully the quiet is just due to them hunkering down and working on it. They've never been too big on splashy announcements or public blogging, though there are apparently a few playtesters active in the Hollow Knight discord that divulge bits and pieces on occasion. I can't imagine them releasing anything half-baked, at any rate, and fortunately they've said that Covid hasn't been too taxing on them or their development process.

There are so many hidden details throughout the world that it sometimes feels endless. I found the last remaining relic in my main save at about 300 hours in, and I'm still finding random extra soul totems and geo rocks scattered around the map. This is an excellent little spoiler-free tool I've used many times to see just how many items I've completely missed tucked away in some corner of the game, and it's always been a larger number than I thought it would be.
