Blog Number 193: Bloo's Cloos Edition
I was going to wait till tomorrow to post this - sort of an end-of-week progress report - but by then it'll be extremely eventful here in Blighty, so I thought I'd post early instead. General update!

🎵 Yo, listen up! Here's the story... 🎵
Good news! For September, I have surpassed the 20-kiloword limit and, on top of that, already broken my record for most words written in a 2022 month. An... oddly specific record, true, but it means the writing funk I've been in since year's start finally appears to have lifted. And I'm not even done yet!
Most of those words were written in the service of Midnight Bloo, a more old-school style of fic than the Equestria Girls ones I've done recently. This one is based on a background character who has nothing but one brief appearance in one episode and that's it. Just look at her wiki page! It's amazing because she doesn't actually have one! Not one, one, one!
Ask me how I managed to get 14k+ words out of that!

Well, I'll give you a couple of hints: start with her brief appearance, which involved her being depressed and Pinkie cheering her up. Meaningless as this sounds, the Pinkie association actually helped a bundle because - thinking thematically - I could take Pinkie's "laughter" virtue and make it a cornerstone of the fic.
Next, take her name and treat it as a portmanteau of "blue" and "boo". For the former, look up a list of blue shades on Wikipedia (her mother's name is derived from the shade "liberty"), or single out that "blues" depression theme to feed into the "laughter" theme. For the latter, go straight to the Nightmare Night "night of frights" connection and work from there.
"Wow! How is there a staircase this big in outdoors Ponyville!?"
And... OK, I won't say "voila!", since there's a lot more to it than that, but you get the idea. A little elbow grease and head-banging against a wall for a week or so, and hey presto! Fic about an obscure unicorn filly whose name is a Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends reference!
I may or may not have worked that into it somehow.
And... now you've basically seen the full gamut of Bloo appearances in the show. Well done, research team!
Unfortunately, my plan from Monday onwards was to finish the fic early this week and then immediately get started on my first entry for the Ancestral Tribute contest I mentioned a while back. Apart from the "early this week" part, it went off without a hitch!
Yeah, I better get cracking on that contest entry...
I've been posting a lot of Pinkie shots for this fic, and yet Luna still somehow steals the show.

Fear assuaged: the reference is to the fact this filly's basically in a care home for childhood magical beings. Not to the specific imaginary friend in that other series: trust me, she's not that kind of character.
