Am I the only one who didn't hate the Pinocchio's live action trailer? · 7:29pm Aug 27th, 2022
https://youtube.com/shorts/TJuCdt0fN40?feature=share. I want to reiterate that I don't think the trailer is great. I just don't think it's as bad as people are making it out to be. I also don't see the "wokeness" that a lot of political commentary channel are talking about. But maybe I'm missing something? because all I see is just another generic life action trailer from Disney.
I also liked the trailer, much more than other people did.
I have a few things I like. Pinocchio himself looks faithful to the original, and Honest John looks like he'd be hilarious. Even though I find this remake unnecessary, it looks alright. I just hope it doesn't turn out like The Lion King.
Most people who're concerned about "wokeness" don't even know what it means. It's just a boogieman for them and their follows to freak out about. (at least that's how I see it)
I would wager that the wokeness in question refers to the fairy godmother, who is now portrayed as a black lesbian. Whether or not she'll be used to sell victimhood to her represented demographic and shame to everyone else has yet to be seen in order for this character to be truly woke.
As for the trailer itself, it looks like it's trying to be a one to one remake of the original animated film, which will in turn make it into nothing but a bland, soulless heap of slop fit only for studio executives to be forced to watch as punishment for their decision to greenlight bastardized live-action remakes of their animated masterpieces. As a fan of Disney Animated Canon, this rouses my ire very much. Being a tall, hairy, temperamental man of Italian descent myself, my reaction is most accurately portrayed by this admirable fellow.

Like I said I don't think the trailer is amazing. I just don't see the wokeness. I understand that the fairy was originally a white woman with blonde hair but I don't think criticizing a woman that's bald and black and calling it woke instead of what it really sounds like which is being racist is the rights move to make. Especially since we actually don't know why they casted her or seen anything that would hint that they're trying to be woke. As my thoughts on the trailer itself, it looks pretty and beautiful but not enough to justify its existence. As for Tom Hanks, if he's good at the role I won't think about it too much of it.
I didn't hate it. In general, I'm okay with the Disney remakes. I don't hate them, I don't really love them either, I just think they're alright. When I'm watching them, I enjoy them but I don't really think about them too hard afterwards. It happens.
As to the puppet himself, I get it looks a bit Uncanny Valley but then...it is a walking, talking puppet. It's not supposed to look normal.
Sure, could have been better.
But then it also could have been a lot worse!
