Question of the Week #65 · 2:30am Aug 3rd, 2022
Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week and I hope you're all having a wonderful week so far.
This week I want to talk about a setting idea I have, one that I'm sure some of my friends are tired of hearing about. 
So, the initial that was to combine some of the themes of the cyberpunk genre and Egyptian architecture and symbolism. It's been adjusted a bit, but I still look forward to sharing it. There was an oc involved in it, but I'm going to leave the information on that character for a future blog. 
The concept is that this setting takes place in another timeline created by Starlight Glimmer's manipulation of time. In this universe, Nightmare Moon didn't return, instead Celestia was corrupted and became Daybreaker and used her powers to scorch the land, before she was stopped by Sunset Shimmer. Now Sunset is an alicorn, hailed as the savior of the sun and she who holds back the darkness. Due to Daybreaker's fury, Equestria is now a desolate wasteland with the sands being referred to as the Everbarren Desert, which is now roaming with bandits and Tatzlwurms.
Now most ponies find sanctuary in a few walled cities, which were established by Sunset as well as various corporations including: Rich-Corp, Flim Flam Industries, CheesyPie Studios and a few others. One such city is Neo Somnabula named after the city of Somnabula that was initially destroyed during Daybreaker's reign of terror.
In addition to the corporations and Sunset's followers, there are other factions in the cities including numerous gangs. There is also an organization known as the Gleaming Eye, a group of unicorn mages that will appear seemingly out of nowhere to experiment on ponies living in the cities with their magical abilities.
So, the questions I wanted to ask are:
- What do you all think of this setting?
- Do you have any ideas/suggestions either for corporations, gangs or establishments within Neo Somnabula?

I was really hoping this was an announcement or something because this is an intriguing world.
The thought of like the Jokerz from Batman Beyond came to mind, followers of an older villain, except maybe like the Sphinxes, where they ask a riddle and if you get it right, they leave you alone, otherwise you get jumped.

You could also include another faction called 'the cabal' which is a group of rich people who want to form their own government which benefits only rich people and aim to do so by acquiring magical artifacts with enough power to defeat Sunset.

I like the concept! Lots of opportunities for storytelling.
How about a group called the Augmented Triad? They include members of all three tribes (including at the leadership level). They have developed a new type of powerful magic based on music that requires one of each pony type working in harmony to cast.

Another faction could be a religious one who believe that Alicorns are the cause of pain and suffering and should be destroyed.

Or there could be two branches of that faction. One is carrying out operations in broad daylight while the other is secretive and more stealthy about what they do

This immediately made me think of Stargate. I am personally glad that my first association when high-tech ancient Egyptians comes up is specifically that and not the more general (anti-African) conspiracy theories.
5677268 I was a stargate fan growing up, though it's probably not going to be exactly the same. I've never heard of these... Anti-African conspiracy theories though.

The Ancient Aliens stuff (as demonstrated best by The "History" Channel show of that name) exist mostly because white scholars have historically refused to believe that Africans could do anything impressive on their own merits.
5677280 Oh, I guess I was partially aware of that (knew about the alien theories but not the racy nature behind it).
Yeah, no aliens here... At least, at the moment (who knows).
I just love the two styles and think that cyberpunk and Egyptian architecture, myth and symbols could blend together really well.
