So...I watched My Little Pony: A New Generation today · 6:48pm Apr 15th, 2022

I still didn't like it. The plot is still dumb, the message is still pretty ham-fisted, and while the main characters aren't the Mane Six clones that I thought they were, I feel most of them are a bit one-note. Oh, and there's also the inconsistencies between G4 and G5.

But because I feel like I'm repeating myself, let's move onto the things I did like:

  • Hitch. While I feel his character development was a bit rushed, at least he has character development.
  • Argyle's a good character too despite his short screentime. Even though he could have told Sunny about the crystals to save her some trouble down the road, he's still the only one in Maretime Bay with his head on straight.
  • The humour. That bit where Izzy said "I know what you're thinking" and Sprout thinks she's reading his mind made me laugh. And there's something amusing about the other pony races thinking Earth ponies have tiny brains. Given how a significant portion of Maretime Bay's population act like lead-poisoned idiots, who could blame them? :rainbowlaugh: Also, and I might be giving the movie too much credit for this, but a loser like Sprout suddenly becoming a dictator and, even as a dictator, he's still kind of a loser is pretty funny considering most dictators, for all their warmongering ways, are basically insecure man-babies. Like Sprout.
  • Going with the above point about humour, there's something both hilarious and disturbing that the people of Zephyr Heights arrested Queen Haven for "being a phony-pony full of baloney" and would have done the same to Pipp and Zipp. Good thing Tell Your Tale showed her and her daughters are back in power because, if her subjects were quick to turn on her for lying to them, imagine what would happen if the magic wasn't restored and everypony didn't become friends. My best guess would be a re-enactment of the French Revolution but with ponies (which, in addition to a race war, is my headcanon *quietly snickers at accidental pun* about what happened between G4 and G5 until proven otherwise).
  • A couple of the songs are catchy. More specifically, 'Danger Danger' and 'Fit Right In'.

Well, I don't blame you since till this day, I don't like the plot of the movie. Which cause me to stop watching the movie near the end (After Sunny find the Earth pony crystal) But I do like the Mane Five since they are the only things, beside from some of the songs, that made me watch the movie.

I simply watched it in a futile attempt to change my opinion of it.

Oh, well. There's always the series to look forward to. Maybe that might flesh out the Mane Five a bit more or have better stories to tell...

Or it could surprise me by going to dark places since there is potential for dark storylines if they decide to explore what happened between G4 and G5.

Oh, and there's also the inconsistencies between G4 and G5.

In my mind, that's a feature, not a bug. It shows they're willing to write their own show. I'd rather have a good show that breaks canon that a bad show that slavishly follows G4. But 🤷

Agree, well, I not a huge fan of the movie, I give G5 a chance since it may interest me in the futures

Ironically, I actually consider “Danger, Danger” to be the film’s worst song. Especially because it openly boosted the reason for why I consider Sprout Cloverleaf so pathetic and stupid, and why I believe the background characters were as dumb as sheep.

I would say the background characters being dumb as sheep is the point, especially since Izzy said the unicorns think Earth ponies are "not the brightest crystals in the forest" and even the Pegasus guards that came to arrest her and Sunny think Earth ponies have tiny brains, but that would fly in the face of the movie's message.

That said, I do think Sprout being stupid and pathetic is the point because it reminds me of a certain homeless art school reject with (alleged) monorchism who eventually climbed to the top of Germany's political ladder by preying on the nation's nationalistic pride and the rampant antisemitism of the time.

Again, I may be giving the movie too much credit.

I know, but still...everything about it felt like an insult to a person’s intelligence.
