Health and Writing Update - Feathered Hearts and Harmonic Resonance · 4:29pm Mar 29th, 2022
In short, I’m happy to report that the next Continuation and Chronicles release is just a few days away, and I’m finally starting to feel more myself again. Harmonic Resonance is lagging, however, as I’m just finding the going very tough there.
With regards to my recent illness, the medication I’ve been taking is helping and my shingles appear to be fading out; it’s been days since I ran a fever or had a headache. Went to the gym for the first time in weeks yesterday and feel suitably sore this morning. I’m even going to try running for the first time in three weeks shortly, at which point I’m sure I’ll find that I’ve lost a great deal of stamina. I regularly run 10Ks, and I’ll count myself fortunate if I’m able to go 5K after all this.
But enough of that. I’m sure you’re all eager for a new C&C battle chapter, and unlike the previous ones, I’m creating this one from scratch. It’s completely new content, and the first three-quarters of it are given over to combat with the Cloven, which takes place at a breakneck pace. Expect the use of Claymore mines, Chris getting to snipe with his Russian rifle, an example of how the Cloven can get past obstacles, and a desperate fight for survival when the they prove only too able to learn from their previous mistakes and make adaptations. The last quarter of the chapter is then catching our breath and planning next steps, including the escape from Bale with the help of the Ibex, who have indeed withheld some items and information.
As bonuses, you’ll get to see Starlight’s text to Chris and learn what the Marines nicknamed her and Twilight, see yet another new pure Cloven soldier form inspired loosely by HALO, discover why the Ibex fear humans and planned to kidnap Chris, and you’ll also get some direct examples of how the cider can actually help our heroes in combat.
And yes, you will also get another R-rated moment at battle’s end, this time involving Giraldi turning Terminator on a group of Cloven with the fifty.
No teaser, sorry, because I want you to come into the chapter’s combat cold. It’s currently at 7.5k words and likely to be over 10k when all is said and done. As for Harmonic Resonance, I’ll have to wait for my muse to catch up with it a bit. I’ll switch back to it after this chapter is released. And after that?
After that, I’m going to write a new chapter of Firefly, and one of Eros, with the latter continuing the story of the night into the viewing of the movie Midway, which I finally watched and highly recommend. Trust me, there’s plenty there to work with when the griffies get turned on by epic battle scenes and equally great bravery!
ETA on C&C chapter release is Saturday or Sunday, prereads depending. I’ll release one more update blog as we get closer. Thanks for bearing with me folks, and I’ll try to start making it up to you with this chapter.
The chapter looks great so far. You prove that with either fantasy/medieval or fantasy/modern, you know how to competently execute a combat sequence. Great stuff!
