The Superbowl · 2:00am Feb 20th, 2022
My job involves a lot of chit chat with strangers, and this time of year, that inevitably leads to conversations about the Super Bowl. I have nothing against people with a genuine passion for football, but I find it toxic and bizarre when folks automatically presume that you share that passion, and look at you strangely if you don't follow the sport.
Imagine if the world were like that everytime My Little Pony had a season finale. "What do you mean, 'Who's Tirek?' Didn't you see Twilight Sparkle zap him with DBZ-style nuclear friendship last night?"
"Who's Twilight Sparkle??? What are you, some kinda weirdo?"
Discuss.

Ohhh… I think I’ve done that!
But some just don’t understand how important ponies and Friendship are! We have to tell team!
I'm reminded of the feeling of departing a convention, and consciously realizing that, oh, right, all these people around me now probably aren't in the fandom.

I remember the first con I ever attended - this overwhelming feeling of outsider culture becoming dominant culture, even if only within the confines of a single building, for one weekend a year.
It was magical

Aye. :)
Nothing wrong with having different passions, I actually like learning about different people's passions.

I'm fine with other passions. Nothing wrong with people who love football. It's the people who put social pressure on you to share their love of football who need to change.
