I used to be in several groups. These days, I’m not. And it’s not out of anger or superiority or anything like that.
It’s just.... when I see a bazillion blog posts to sift through, I get a little overwhelmed.
Okay, a lot overwhelmed.
I don’t mind so much if it’s another social media venue, most of those I’m using at least part-time for my YouTube videoing, so it’s kind of like a job. It’s just a job that doesn’t pay yet. And I go into those sites expecting to pay a certain amount of social energy to get the work done.
But this is where I come to relax and share and read stories (and occasionally try to figure out why I’m not getting notices on an author I follow, but that’s a separate deal).
So, I was invited to a group recently, and I joined... and immediately was awash with something like a hundred posts.
Immediately grasping the scope of my folly (be careful, publicly grasping your own folly can get you banned in some places ‘round here), I withdrew from the group.
But, I forgot to look up the person who invited me, and now I don’t remember the name of the group.
Oops.
So, if you invite me and I don’t accept... or I do accept, and then run away like a scalded cat, it’s not you or your people. I just have a limited mount of social energy, and I have to ration it carefully.
And if you are the person who invited me to your group a little while back, I sincerely apologize for my lack of consideration. You deserved at least a short explanation, and I’m sorry I didn’t grant you that courtesy.
Anyway. Life is good, and I now return you to your own lives, already in progress.
Fair enough. I tend to tune out most group posts, though many of mine aren't particularly active.
If you join groups, it gives you access to a fourth tab on the front page of said groups. It is in the right-hand corner, right next to the join/leave button. A picture of a single gear is on the tab, which is called 'settings' and if you click that tab, it gives you two options. One to toggle off feed notifications for that particular group and another to do the same with threads. You just check it manually when you wish to if you choose to toggle both so that they are off.
I've kind of been creeping up to this lately.
Joined a few groups for some contests, and now I get several daily notifications. As opposed to before when I would get one or two every other month. It's been a jump.
What helps me is that I know I don't have to engage with it. I can ignore it if I want. Though, I realize not everyone can do that.
If that's the case, then Ice Star's suggestion is a good one. If it's a group you like, but it gets too busy, just turn off the notifications for that group.

Oh. Well. Far out.

Yeah, so hopefully now that shouldn’t be a problem.

Probably not. Thanks for telling me.

No problem! I'm not sure if the site help had this anywhere in the pages, but I guess not.
