so there's this little database some news site made about lgbtq characters in kids cartoons and as odd as the label choices and omissions were, i could not help but grin stupidly at seeing this

of course, obviously their gender is "mare" and not "woman", their races are "earth pony/unicorn" and not "n/a", their orientation "lesbian" rather than "unknown", and their canon marriage should be in the list of confirmation sources, but still! can't help but grin stupidly. also love how lyra is breaking the fourth wall to wave to us humans

They used her actual name? That's got to cause some national security concerns... :raritywink:

This is what happens when they make something involving a fictional universe and don't even talk to one member of the creative team or fandom. During the show you don't see anything that confirms their relationship until season 9 when Big Mac goes to propose to Sugar Belle and in all the insanity, there is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene where you see the two of them approach each other with ring boxes and in the series outro when in another blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the Ponyville news paper where their marriage announcement is published. As far as I know, there aren't any instances of them being shown kissing or nuzzling or hugging or whatever, the subtext is there that they're much more than just friends. The same is true for Scootaloo's aunts, it never outright says they're a couple, but there's a lot of subtext.

Yeah, I think "They are actually in fact married to each other" might be slightly firmer confirmation of a relationship than "They stood next to each other once". :D
Perhaps not the most reliable of lists.
But still: :)

I mean, if we open the floor to hugging and nuzzling, there are a few data to work with.

Technically, one or both of them could be bisexual, too! :twistnerd:

Lyra and Bon-Bon are clearly meant to be a couple, and so are Scoot's aunts. The subtext is basically text, in both cases.

As @Lurks-no-More said I was going to argue that either Bon Bon or Lyra or both could be bi, pan, ace, areo, or anything other than "hertosexual". So technically their orientation should be listed as "Unknown, not-hetero"
