"Firefly" on Disney+ · 1:00am Apr 28th, 2021
Who among you are familiar with Joss Whedon's classic series Firefly? For those who are not, it is one of the the biggest examples of a show that was cancled long before it deserved to be.
Firefly is a space western following the crew of the Firefly-class starship Serenity (important note: the show's title refers to the class of the starship, not its actual name---it's confusing, I know), led by Captin Mal Reynolds, a veteran in what was essentially the Civil War in space (except that in this case the Union was more-or-less the bad guy while the Confederates were the goood guys-again, more or less), as they take on jobs both legal and illegal while haboring Alliance fugitives Simon and his super-genius-turned-insane-super-soldier sister River. I only very recently got into the series, and I can arleady tell that it deserved a lot more than a single season and a movie that only tied up a few loose ends.
That said, there is good news---I recently learned that Disney+ of all things is producing a Firefly reboot. I am taking the news with a grain of salt, however. While Disney may be fine with having the rights to "edgier" franchises such as Star Wars and The Simpsons, the content of Firefly may be a little too far out of their target demograph-I'm thinking primarily of the Reavers, who are explicitly stated to rape their victims to death, eat their flesh, and sew their skin into their clothing, in that order if the victims are very, very lucky. Even so, I would like to see how they pull it off.
Wow, that sounds interesting.
I have the series and movie on DVD, and I know there are comics available for it. Honestly, I'd rather they not reboot it, especially considering the cast seems eager to reprise their roles. Well, Nathan Fillion is eager to return, anyway.
That said, any new version of the series would raise complaints no matter what, especially if Joss Whedon remained involved.

Speaking of Nathan Fillion, have you watched "The Rookie"? I've only watched a handful of episodes so far, but Fillion is bringing his A-game to this show.

No, but I have heard good things. Is it on Hulu?
