"Ask me if I care (Super Powers and Needing Them)" Debunked · 11:06am Apr 5th, 2021
If you want the short version of my rebuttal of this argument is that it doesn't count when you artificially inflate the powers of villains while deflating the powers of canon characters. If the Immortal Game Mane-6 was in the Starfleet series, none of the villains or heroes in Starfleet wouldn't stand a chance. And you know what? If I'm gonna rip off Rationality Rules, I'm going all the way. This is "Ask me if I care (Super Powers and Needing Them)" Debunked.
Recently I have received complaints about the way I often grant all the heroes in groups I use SUPER NATURAL POWERS in order to beat the bad guys, even those who have no super powers but usually get along fine without them using their "WITS" and their "RESOURCES"
And their skills. It's not all about power.
Like how Robin and Batman don't have super powers. What makes them cool is their "wits" and that Batman is rich and has all these resources and gadgets, and is very cunning, able to leap out of situations.
What makes Batman cool has nothing to do with him being rich. What makes Batman cools is that he can be on the level of others with real superpowers, despite the fact that he has no superpowers. And no, his powers aren't just from his gadgets. Bruce Wayne is trained in and is a master in several forms of martial arts. What makes Batman awesome is that he DOESN'T NEED SUPERPOWERS.
Number one: Robin's not going up against your ordinary Run-of-the-mill villains. The enemies I like to create are supposed to be able to make Trigon, Darksied, and even Thanos look like amateurs.
The problem with that is that is the narrow and limited view of power actually means. Goku was able to defeat Broly, despite how much stronger Broly is than Goku. Goku used that massive energy against him. Goku and Vegeta were able to defeat MetaCooler, despite how much strong he is than them. They were able to use their Super Saiyan energy to overload the Big Getti Star. There's the story of David and Goliath. Last I checked, Goliath didn't win.
Nope, if you want to beat these bad guys, you gotta upgrade yourself (Gain powers)
Even the Power Rangers faced that...
Zordon: "I’m afraid nothing we could do could ever give the Dinozords enough power. You now need stronger, new Zords equipped with the power of thunder to defeat Lord Zedd."
This is a False Equivalence Fallacy. The Power Rangers' Zords were upgraded. But the Power Rangers themselves were not. So the Power Rangers didn't become more powerful, it was their equipment that got more powerful. Mr. Incredible got an upgraded Superhero Costume. But his own superpowers were not changed.
Number Two: I don't like Robin!
I don't need to continue. This doesn't explain anything aside from an author's personal biases. It's not a reason, it's an excuse.
In my fanfiction, only Beast Boy Villains (Count Logan, Yamimakai) or villains who are associated with him are allowed to be THAT strong, HAVE those kinds of Powers and Capabilities of causing such murder and destruction and chaos.
If you are not Beast Boy, or you do not work for him...Thanos, Trigon, Darksied... can all be defeated as easily as popping a balloon.
That logic doesn't even make sense in fiction.
Same applies to Twilight Sparkle and her flimsy friendship fools...
And here comes the argument that I gleefully debunk easily. Let's continue...
Let's put her in LEGEND OF ZELDA OCARINA OF TIME (The Final Battle with Ganon)
-First, she and her friends have to be able to actually FIND his weakness (Which is his tail)
-Then they have to be able to actually GET to the tail and HIT IT.
-Then even if they are lucky enough to hit it... did it do ANYTHING AT ALL?. (Nope... they aren't strong enough to even tickle him, let alone take any HP away)Twilight may have the right IDEA of how to battle and beat these monsters, but she has neither the strength nor the resources to pull it off.
Twilight may have the right idea of how to battle and beat Ganon, but she has neither the strength nor the resources to pull it off.
That is the claim that is easily debunked. Let's break it down. First of all, Link may be a hero, but he IS just a human. Equines are in fact much stronger than humans. Using that logic, just one member of the Mane-6 as that advantage over Link. Then there's the fact that they are 6 against 1. That significantly shifts the advantage in the favor of the ponies. Rarity's eye for detail and Twilight's analytical skills fixies finding Ganon's weakness easily. As for hitting the tail (the weakness), THERE ARE 6 OF THEM! They can surround Ganon, making it so that at least one pony has a clear shot at his tail.
And that's not even going into LITERAL otherworldly powers.
Rarity may not be much of a fighter. But her multitasking skills allow her to be the one to direct the others.
Fluttershy can basically summon an army of animals, as well as act as a healer.
Applejack is easily the best option for brute strength.
Rainbow Dash has super speed and agility as well as the SONIC RAINBOOM.
Twilight, even just as a unicorn, is one of the most gifted unicorns of her time.
And Pinkie Pie... is Pinkie Pie. Need I say more?
Against Twilight and her friends, Ganon doesn't stand a chance.
Without the Super Powers and the upgrades... You don't have a Chance to HAVE a chance to even GET a Chance of hoping to make it in my fic, and even if YOU have the chance... doesn't mean I'm willing to let you win.
Just because an author won't let characters win, it doesn't mean those characters are incapable of winning. None of Mykan's characters would stand a chance in The Immortal Game. And that has nothing to do with the author's preferences.
I've pointed out the fanfic The Immortal Game a few times. Not only was it to prove a point, but it was kinda to promote it, since that is an awesome story. Also, the reading that got me into the story can be found here.
