So I watched Stargate the other night... · 2:22pm Mar 16th, 2021
It was alright overall. Not the best Sci-Fi movie in the universe, but it was okay I guess. I mostly watched it because I was bored for something new to watch and because YouTube has it up for free with ads.
It's one of those movies that perpetuates the whole "aliens influenced Egypt thing", and while I don't necessarily fault the movie for doing it as a little sci-fi jaunt, I've always found that idea more than a bit dumb, even as somebody who thinks–hopes, really–that there's intelligent life out there in the universe besides little old us. It's actually a bit condescending to those ancient cultures if you really run it through to its full implications; "they were too primitive to build things like that, so they had to have had help!". Like...you can see the problem with that line of thinking, right?
Anyway, the movie was okay overall. 5+/10 (5+ being a positive okay, 5- being a negative in my scaling).
The original Terminator is also free to watch on YouTube if you didn’t know. So is Big Trouble in Little China, Kung Pow: Enter The Fist; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; as well as a bunch of other classics
Yeah, I was never too shot with the idea of this movie either. I reckon it's the TV show that's where the fandom really came from.
Also, I know I mentioned it elsewhere, but good on you for calling out the "Ancient Aliens" trope and the whole "aliens inspired the pyramids" thing. It's *at best* condescending and at worst flat-out racist.
