As cynical as it is, I do agree with this video · 7:01pm Feb 9th, 2021

WARNING: DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF SHADE THROWN AT CONSERVATIVES IN THIS VIDEO, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU ARE RIGHT-WING! VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED!

Amusingly, the idea of someone not only being overpowered but actually being competent and refusing the power of friendship is something I've touched upon (and most likely will continue to touch upon) in my most recent story, A Beautiful Lie. But since that story's a comedy, I'll make my best efforts to lampshade how convenient it is that our villain protagonist, Tom, winds up in Equestria as a unicorn and...well...I can't say much more without spoiling chapters I haven't even written up yet.

Also, while I do find it easier to forgive than to hold a grudge (except for when it comes to my biological dad because he has fucking earned my enmity), I can easily say that words are one thing and actions are another and actions definitely speak louder than words. For example, despite my attempts at giving up fapping ending in failure, I have succeeded in giving up other bad habits like video game piracy and practicing possession spells I found on the Internet. In fact, I once made a...polarizing...alternative to season 6 onward where Starlight didn't redeem herself but, after stepping back and realizing my main problem with Starlight is her pathetic excuse of a backstory, I made a blog post proposing a different backstory for her that was certainly less polarizing. In summary, I...I want to say I've changed but, since I'm still an amoral, foul-mouthed wanker (not hyperbole, I have a masturbation addiction) who may or may not have a narcissistic personality disorder, I evidently haven't changed that much despite my faith in God and despite my best efforts to be good. Plus, I don't like change, though it's mostly relegated to when YouTube and Google change their looks for the umpteenth time.

Let's just say I adapted. Adaptation is a more positive word than change.

Now, one can make an argument about how hypocritical it is that someone's criticizing Starlight for her lack of punishment and yet never brought up how Discord never faced any real consequences but...the thing is...Discord has actually faced karmic justice for a good portion of his actions. Betraying everypony to Tirek? Gets his magic stolen just like everypony else and nearly wrecked his friendship with Fluttershy. Freeing Tirek and Cozy Glow from Tartarus and resurrecting King Sombra (oh, and having Chrysalis tag along) just to give Twilight a confidence boost, which is an admirable goal? Gets his magic stolen again. Yes, I am aware that I had left out him threatening to throw Tree Hugger into another dimension but it's not like he acted on that threat so I'll let it slide.

Hell, even I faced consequences for my actions. Pirated video games on a regular basis? Computer gets infected with a Trojan Horse virus. Sure, my computer has long since recovered but boy, did that scare me straight. Plus, as I've said in the above mentioned point regarding actions, I can safely say I have learnt my lesson and never looked back.

PS: As juvenile and unclever it is compared to my nickname for Starlight (Discount Twilight), I did get a laugh out her being called "C:flutterrage:nty Purple" in the video. :rainbowlaugh:

It's kind of disconcerting to me how much I agree with this video.

Huh. I'm gonna have to think about some things.

This was awesome!!!

I would push back a little on the ‘actions are the only thing that matters’ bit. I mostly agree with it, but it’s hyperbolic the way it was presented. Someone purposefully murdering another with poison is different from accidentally poisoning someone by ignorantly mixing cleaning products. Intention does matter to an extent, in some situations. It’s when an action is repeated over and over again, especially after the person has been educated on the negative consequences, that the claimed intention becomes irrelevant and the action itself is all that matters.

I know. :facehoof:

Well, I thought about some things yesterday (especially all the drama in the SSPB) and it inspired me to write a story.

And I, for one, welcome Tom the Dark Lord. :rainbowlaugh:

I'd push back on the 'actions are the only thing that matters' bit too. After all, I quickly forgave Discord for his actions in season 9 simply because he had good intentions.

It’s when an action is repeated over and over again, especially after the person has been educated on the negative consequences, that the claimed intention becomes irrelevant and the action itself is all that matters.

Since I've recently seen that happen a fair bit, I agree.
