So I got to see the eclipse yesterday...

My family went on an all-day pilgrimage through the state to get to a good spot to watch it. Really cool to see happen. I'm gonna be in my 40's when it happens again. Maybe I'll have some actually published original stories out by then xD

Discovered something... · 11:56pm Jan 1st, 2021

I'm in the middle of doing some writing, and I've discovered that listening to certain tracks from "Man of Steel" actually helps my mind to focus.

Usually listening to music ends up being more of a distraction, but in this case it's actually helping. Say what you will about the more action-y bits of Hans Zimmer's score for that movie, but I really think these peaceful ones are fantastic. The little piano melody that's associated with Clark is one of my particular favorites. A friend of mine once said that it embodies Superman's gentleness and humanity, and I stand by that opinion.

Of course it also helps a great deal that the music's subject matter kind of has relevance to what I'm actually writing. :raritywink:

Now I just gotta keep those writer juices flowing...

Well, glad you found something that works for you, I suppose. I don't remember any of Zimmer's score for Man of Steel, but hey, if it works for you, then that's good.

Oh yeah, it does. I adore that one little piano riff. It's so simple and yet it perfectly captures the essence of a nice farm boy from Kansas who's just a little bit different from most other people. Just a pity it couldn't have gone with a better incarnation of the character, and that's all I'll say about that.

John Williams' theme fits the Super. The quiet portions of the Zimmer score fits the Man. It's honestly why I think my all-time favorite Superman theme is this one.

Anyway, back to writing...
