I've spent an hour reading Cyberpunk 2077 reviews... · 8:02pm Dec 7th, 2020
...And they are bringing me pause.
Mainly because of what I'm reading about bugs. They are noticeable, and everywhere. From T-poses, to AI enemies being completely unaware of you, to elevators not working, requiring rebooting the game to hope it works, to full on crashes. I'm reading that a very generous autosave mechanic keeps it from being game-breaking.
The main quest is shorter than some are expecting, and this is because CDPR has said that a lot of people didn't finish Witcher 3's main quest. But in the case of Cyberpunk, there are absolutely no shortage of distractions and ways to get lost. Some reviews are claiming the side quests are the best content in the game.
Reviewers, while able to post their text reviews as of three hours ago, were not allowed to post video footage along with it, and that is a huge red flag to me. Any video review on YouTube right now is just loops of the same footage we've been seeing for months and months.
Lastly, none of these reviews were done on base Xbox Ones or PS4s, and I think anyone playing on a base console, with hardware that is seven years old now, will be walking into disaster.
I have little doubt that these bugs will be long-lasting. When it comes to post-launch support, CDPR is legendary.
But I am now questioning if I want to dive in at launch, and not wait for some of this stuff to be addressed. If I do wait, maybe it's time to get the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn, which got its eighth patch at the end of November, and is in a very playable state now.
I commented in a forum how dangerous is for having such high expectatrions with such a complex game, who had multiple problems keeping up with its date launch.
Sure, people offended me. "Cyberunk is not The Witcher...CD Projekt will do its job...you are a moron !"
Keep in mind reviewers don't have access to the day 1 patch and many received a day 0 patch after they had already put in over a dozen hours.

I didn't play Witcher 3 at launch. I hear it also had a fair share of bugs.
I don't really buy games on launch day anymore; I've gotten burned too many times.
Here's hoping it is still good with post-game patches!
Keep in mind that the game has a 44 gb pre-launch patch alongside a day one patch of unknown size which should iron out a lot of the issues. But yeah, as someone who has an Original Xbox One, I am concerned at the fact they've haven't shown any gameplay footage for last gen. I'll be getting a Series X in February, so I'll definitely be replaying then for the best experience.
