Am I fishing for ideas? ...Maybe. :trollestia:

5406118 Wow, that's a pretty cool looking game. What do you like the most about the setting in it? :pinkiehappy:

5406105 I've never heard of that one before. I'll have to look it up.

Either hollow knight or adventure time.

The moment in the game that resonated with me the most was when the protagonist April restores hope to the antagonistic and dying civilizations of Maerum with the Alatians.

Fallout and Mad Max.

Fallout: I really can’t explain why post-apocalypse is such an appealing setting to me, but what I like about Fallout is the lore of the setting: what the world was like before the apocalypse, how the apocalypse happened, what’s happened afterward, the people who now populate the land, etc. I have nothing against the basic “person changes the wasteland for the better” story premise, but I also find it interesting when the story is about someone/thing else, like an antagonist or villain. I also like the optimism in the setting that’s not always obvious at first glance: even after the apocalypse, even though the world may never be the same again (in a bad way), life still finds a way to thrive.

Mad Max: I admit, this combines two things I’m fond of: automobiles and an apocalyptic world. But there’s more to it beneath the surface, as it also paints a picture of what a post-apocalyptic world could look like not in a high-tech sci-fi world like Fallout, but in a world much like the one we live in: computers are useless because there’s no electrical grid to speak of, the lack of production infrastructure means gun ammunition is scarce to all but those rare few with the resources to make it themselves, and people find a way to repurpose items that we today would find mundane or garbage. That last point was best summarized by George Miller, the director of the movies: “Just because it’s a wasteland, it doesn’t mean people can’t make beautiful things.” In other words, because there’s so little in the world, people have to be extremely resourceful.

On top of the above, they show their status in ways different from ours. For example, the fourth movie’s Production Designer said about the design of the main villain’s vehicle: in a world where there’s barely one of everything, to show you have power, you have two of everything.

I love the 2015 game’s world: it’s a harsh desert with mere remnants of past civilization, about half of which was once an ocean, but it’s still beautiful in a way. But like in the movies, we’re never told exactly what happened; all we have to go on in the game are location descriptions and photos from the past, and even they only give a rough description of what happened. Like in the movies, food, water, fuel, and ammo are scarce.

The game’s combat is visceral: on-foot combat has no fancy martial arts, just brutal and pragmatic hand-to-hand. Vehicular combat is fast, explosive, and chaotic, each enemy vehicle has their own strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics, and your own vehicle, the Magnum Opus, can be modified/equipped as desired to take on any situation or possess a certain set of traits.

The titular character himself is morally gray: his actions over the course of the story do improve the lives of people who are just trying to survive, but his motivation for said actions is entirely selfish; at the same time, however, the people he’s fighting are a vicious warlord and their army, a chaotic gang of kill-happy marauders, and a faction shrouded in mystery that’s still no morally better than the other two.

Metro 2033 and metro last light. The games are heavily story driven. combat can be brutal, and if played on the right difficulty, you can get completely immersed in the world.
