Misty Morals Behind-the-scenes 1: General Ramblings · 8:02am Nov 24th, 2020
I just wanted to talk about Misty Morals, more than I do in the authors notes.
I planned it out up to chapter 6 with a sort of episode synopsis for each chapter, a rough idea of what was going to happen. Turning that into a chapter led to changes, a plotline was dropped, stuff that was supposed to be revealed later (like Mist being a runaway noble) was shown sooner for pacing, and all of the slice-of-life fluff was written on the fly (including the post-it note hazing). As of Chapter 5, I have a few key story beats roughly figured out: The Manehatten Arc, The Star Sapphire Heist, The Canterlot Arc, and The End. I have no guarantee they will turn out well but I have ideas at least.
I've tried to keep the violence in the story cartoony, something I wasn't sure of when I wrote the prologue, but I plan to stay consistent.
You know what's interesting? How prevalent romance and shipping is in this and the Henry Stickmin fandom. I have to pretty much not ship characters when working on Misty Morals.
It's fairly easy to do, given that I'm focused on telling a story instead of writing a shipfic, but I always worry that the character interactions could be interpreted as such, and it's funny in retrospect, I have to turn off my shipping reflex to write (I do like the idea of a Mist Veil/RHM ship, but I'm not writing that yet).
The teddy bear Mist "stole" is inspired by an incident from highschool (14-15yrs old at the time, I think) I'm still salty about, a friend, her Mum and my Mum were eating out, and I won a teddy bear from the crane game/claw machine they had, my friend wanted one so badly she was pestering the adults enough that I was forced to give her my prize. That was the first and only time I've won something from a crane game.
Mist and Right Hand Man have similar accents, though Mist's isn't as pronounced. This doesn't show up in my writing because I wanted to make it obvious who's talking. Prior to moving to Canterlot, Mist grew up in Cowbelltown, Sydneigh.
Little bit of speculation maybe at the end the airship gets sent back with misty aboard and she helps the toppats steal the diamond and has a run in with Henry

Cool, but I don't actually plan on any of the Stickmin cast going back to their universe. The Toppats will run into Henry though.

I am having such a difficult time even figuring out what I want Henry's next adventure to be that I half a mind to ditch the choose-your-own adventure format for something more linear.
