[UPDATE] Why I haven't done much since the last chapter · 12:18am Sep 23rd, 2020
So the last chapter of Empire I've been very quiet on the writing front. This might be a concern, for those of you who have been following my blog for a while, because the last few times this happened, bad things were happing in my IRL.
Nothing so dire in this case. During the couple months, I was "blocked" on "I Couldn't Get Away," I was suffering from burnout, and knew that I needed to take some time off work. This was because I'd been putting in at least 8-10 hours of overtime every week. And, to use the expression that a very wealthy man once told me, "If it takes more than 40 hours in a week to do your job, you're doing it wrong." Indeed, since I started doing this job, I've come to realize that the ENTIRE thing, from start to finish, soup-to-nuts, top to bottom is being done in the LEAST efficient way possible. And this is due to incredibly poor leadership. I could go into this problem, but suffice to say at this time, the "doing it wrong" is baked in and isn't going to change any time soon AND is some of the most mentally draining drudgery I've ever had to suffer through on a job. The worst part about that is the REST of the company (including the division I transferred out of to get this supposedly better job) is run so much better, more efficiently, and more employee-friendly that it's no wonder my current department has such an incredibly high turnover rate. Basically, the only people who are working in the department longer than six months are the ones that are too f**king stubborn to leave.
That was, of course, before my vacation time. I took a total of 7 days off, though 2 of those were not intentional, as the stress and burnout were so bad that I had to call in sick for two days prior to my scheduled vacation. Once I had gotten enough rest and recovered enough, the story just kinda flowed from there.
Once I got back to work, I was going to start back into a process of using at least an hour a day to write my stories, something which has worked well in the past, BUT...
...you may also remember that I'm on the board for a non-profit, and I live in one of the homes operated by said non-profit. We got the keys to a new house, so our entire operation is going to be moved about 30-minutes south-east of my current location in the next 1-2 weeks. That was the point at which I realized that God/The Universe/The Flying Spaghetti Monster/Cthulhu has been telling me, "Take a god-damn break!"
So writing is on hold until after the move is complete. This will be awkward as I have to get started on this year's Christmas Special around the time we're moving.
It's understandable when you have such a situations as work that ends up doing stuff so inefficiently at the end up screwing you over I know a place that I work at does the same so I get it make sure you take care of yourself I enjoy your story and look forward to reading more but I don't want it to come out expense of the author have a pleasant move 🙂
