Yeah, it's another blog about art · 1:17pm Sep 22nd, 2020
Just got nothin' going on right now.
So I saw this piece this morning and I was floored.
This is what good pony art looks like.
We can talk all day about line strength, shading technique, color theory, what have you. But what I'm looking at is the body language. Which is why I said 'pony art'; this can be applied to any art, of course, but translates more directly to a quadruped body shape.
Imagine, if you will, this mare -- and I have no idea who these characters are, or what FoE side story they're from, it doesn't matter -- just sitting down and hugging this stallion, even with the same tear-filled smile on her face. Just kind of an, "Oh, it's you again! I was so worried, but you're safe!" It tells a story, yeah?
But look at the way her back legs are splayed out behind her. Look at how he's sitting on his butt, not a natural position for a pony. She leapt at him, she knocked him on his ass, she's sprawled out all over him.
This is the pose of someone who hasn't seen their spouse in ages. Someone who wasn't just worried, but who thought -- who knew -- they were dead. This is the tearful reunion at the end of a long tale about hurt and hardship in the Equestrian Wasteland, where a lot of ponies did die, but not this guy, not this husband and father. And it's a story not told by this image, but sold, by two hooves.
I just... damn. That all came to me in a single moment when I first saw this piece and I wanted to get it out where others could see. :B That's it, I guess.
Thanks for finding it! This has made my day better! (I would say this made my day, but I was already happy. )
This gives me an idea. Alas, I don't think I could properly write it without going back and recalling FoE lore, which I just don't have time to do.
Nicely said.
That's indeed wonderful.
Thank you so much for seeing that detail! I really wanted to convey the message the commissioner gave me through the body language of the characters.
It really brightens my day that someone out there feels I was able to get that emotion just right. It makes me feel as though I did a good job. Thank you so much! ♡

oho, le artiste! :D Might you know if this is linked to any particular story?

Shut up and take my money-
Howdy, the commissioner here, I haven't exactly written the story this is meant to be a story beat to, though, honestly, seeing the positive feedback to the story behind it honestly makes me really want to publish something for it!
As a short way around, you were completely correct with the point of the scene! Though, I'll gladly go into it just for the sake of things!
Ultimately, this is the finale of the stallion's story, Quick Fix.
Years ago, he was captured when he stayed behind to defend their town from raiders, his pregnant wife, Ice Pack having been sent away for her own safety all the while. Though, eventually, he was freed, only realizing at the last second that Ice had traded herself in exchange for his own safety. Even though he went back and cleared out the camp as soon as he was able to, he was too late, the shipment of slaves already having been sent off to a shadowy slaver network called Apache.
Fast forward a few years of Quick Fix hunting for his family through empty scavenger tips, false leads, and dead ends, and he ultimately has given up on any hope of finding her, simply accepting that he was now alone, when one, odd tip comes through that he can't ignore.
Cut through the whole story with him gathering friends and following the trail to ultimately realize that she's still alive, and there's a chance of saving her, and the pair, along with their daughter, finally meet once again, a tearful, loving reunion for the couple, and a confusing, but sweet moment for their filly, finally seeing her father for the first time, still unaware of who he is.
*Sorry if it's not very well done, I kinda just threw this up on the spot and I've never been good on ultra-simplifying things*
Honestly, I gave the idea of what the scene was to Crimm, and she created one of the best pieces I've seen yet to go with it, and I can't be happier about it!

...Oh damn. I knew that filly had never seen her dad before, I just didn't say anything about it. :D
Geez, I dunno if the story even needs to be written now, the picture kind of says it all! XD But if you do, lemme know.

I sure will! Honestly, the image seriously was absolutely incredible, it tells the entire story in just one glance, but at the same time, still feel like it deserves to be written.
