Vision Problems update · 7:10am Sep 20th, 2020
My new glasses have finished being manufactured and are en-route to me now. Shouldn't be much longer!
If someone could find a Free and ad-free way to make google docs, or any other text editor use a "night mode" on a windows 10 desktop I would be appreciative.
For a browser, you might want to look into a browser extension to swap out the style of the page. Offline, pretty much any text editor should have background colour changing options.
5359237 The only ones I've found are payed :c
Theres an option under File -> Page setup that allows you to change the page color, but alas its only for the page, the rest of the webpage stay's white.
Offline, if you're ok with Notepad++, it can be customized to display any colors you like.
Also free!
5359258 Sadly Notepad++'s spellcheck isn't good enough for me. But thank you for the sugestion.

Poked around a bit more, theres some addons for chrome that do this.
Docs Dark Mode
And a few others under 'Related'
5359271 I don't use Chrome... and you've reminded me that most do. I use firefox.
I use Firefox still too. This looks like a reasonable one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/ It's got specific CSS rules contributed for Google Docs, and is definitely free considering it's open source with the MIT license.

You could use it only for writing/editing, and everything else still on firefox.
Last resort thats off the top of my head is windows built-in high contrast mode. That should do just about everything on screen.
5359277 Hey, hi contrast mode does the job well! Thanks. (Also my objection to Chrome is it's a garbage program no one should use. There is NO REASON for 3 tabs to be taking up 4 gigs of RAM ><)

Heh Chrome goes oh nom nom nom
Windows 10 has a system wide night mode, basically a filter for all applications at once, not sure if that helps.

Or Stylus, which should also have a Firefox version. (I'm using it rather than Stylish since a while back. Works just as well in Waterfox Classic, too, ever since I switched to that from Firefox. Also apparently Stylish added analytics at some point?)

To be fair I use chrome with some fifty open tabs and still keeps at 4gb.
5359838 Mabey they fixed it... IDK. I havent used in since it came out and I don't plan to change that.
5359534 It does help a little! Somone else told me about it. Problem is these lenses make anything emitting light glow and double up ><
5359776 I can't find the site that lets me DL stylish themes anymore :c
As someone who swears by Markdown and using intelligent editors, Visual Studio Code in conjunction with Markdown does Dark Mode really well.
Writing with VSCode (Yes Really)

You're probably looking for https://userstyles.org/ (though at some point the site changed and it's really not as good, plus the site became pretty laggy for me around then as well...).
