My Movie Review on Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe (Plus, a Bonus) · 5:55pm Sep 17th, 2020

Yo, what's up, Kemosabes?

This is your top-of-the-line film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

Today, I'm gonna give you guys my take of "Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe".

Here's the rundown of it:

After once again failing to bust her brothers, Phineas and Ferb, Candace decides that she's fed up with the bad luck she's had all summer, and she's begun to question her self-worth and value as a person.

However, when Candace is kidnapped by aliens, she's taken to another planet called Feebla-Oot, which is ruled by Super Super Big Doctor and is free of pesky little brothers. There, she is proclaimed by Big Doctor as the planet's chosen one and hero.

Meanwhile, Phineas and Ferb launch a rescue mission for Candace, and they're not only accompanied by Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford...but by Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, whose daughter, Vanessa, was also taken by the aliens. And secretly following and aiding the group in their mission...is Perry the Platypus.

I have to admit, I was deeply excited to see this movie, especially after discovering the film's positive word-of-mouth on YouTube and the 100% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. If not for my eldest sister and brother-in-law sharing their Disney+ account with me, I'm not sure how I would've been able to see the film at this very moment.

So, wanna know what I think of this movie?

IT'S TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!!

From start to finish, everything about "Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe" was a delicious treat.

For instance, the direction by Bob Bowen, the story by Bowen, Kate Kondell, and Jeffrey M. Howard, and the screenplay by Dan Povenmire, Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, Jon Colton Barry, Jim Bernstein, and Joshua Pruett, were wonderful. The fingerprints of Povenmire and Marsh were definitely all over the place, I'll tell you guys that.

At times, I've noted that there were some gags that kinda dragged some, but overall...the humor was hilarious. Just like in the show, the filmmakers were able to make every joke they incorporated hysterical, innocent, and entertaining to watch. Even the most random of gags hardly felt out of place, and the ones that were long were still so gut-bustlingly enjoyable that I couldn't resist laughing. Plus, Bob Bowen and company gave the film a surprising amount of emotion that was entrancingly genuine; and in those very moments, my heart felt like it was getting tugged. There were wonderful morals about family, friendship, and self-worth too.

The animation was astonishing, if I may add. As a movie made directly for Disney+, and as one made during a time where animators have to work at home, the animation was absolutely breathtaking. I have no idea how big of a budget Bowen and the animators likely had to work with, but they made the overall visualization faithful to the show while taking it to a level that would be perfect for a movie theater experience.

The music by Danny Jacob was likewise marvelous, and so were the new songs made for the movie. The score Jacob made was perhaps the very best of his career and contributions to the franchise, because it carried a resonance that was full of feeling and matched the film's cinematic level and tone. Also, the songs were instantly memorable and worthy of being classified as some of the franchise's greatest. The lyrics had great bounce, and they held snappy comedic-timings and genuine heart.

Finally, the vocal performances, characters, and character development were incredible. The way the filmmakers managed to recapture what made the old characters so special years before, which were their lovable personalities and sense of innocence, felt like both the filmmakers and the characters were having a long-waited and happy reunion with one another. Admittedly, the dialogue may be a little all over the place at times, but the performers portrayed their characters with such flavorful emotion and personality that they were nevertheless irresistible. Plus, each character had dynamic development.

I'm not gonna lie, when it came to making sure Candace was a lovable lead while still retaining her personality, the filmmakers didn't mess around. The in-depth exploration that Candace was given provided a greater understanding as to why she often tries to bust her brothers so much, which is because she can't help but feel insignificant, undervalued, and underappreciated compared to them; her development as a character was likewise terrific, and her moments of vulnerability and her surprising compassion for others was heart-tugging. Plus, Ashley Tisdale's performance was both fantastic and powerful, especially to where it was her greatest work as Candace yet and was worthy of an Annie Award for Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production.

Additionally, Ali Wong was quite a scene-stealer in her portrayal of Super Super Big Doctor, and her character was not only well-developed but a perfect alternate reflection of Candace. The twist and revealing of her as a villain was nicely worked too, in part because the filmmakers made sure it wouldn't feel out of place and provided the character time for audiences to get to know her more.

As a final noting, I'd like to add that David Errigo Jr. did a flawless job filling in for Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Ferb.

In conclusion, "Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe" is an astonishing gem, and it showcased a marvelous (and hopefully not brief) comeback for the characters from the show. As a film that was released in 2020, this film is something I highly recommend for all who want to take their minds off the trying times of the COVID-19 Pandemic, even for newcomers of the Phineas and Ferb franchise.

So, I rate "Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe" a solid five out of five stars.

Before I conclude this post, I'd like to show you guys what my new favorite outfit worn by the Equestria Girls Pinkie Pie is:

Never seen the movie, but base on the review it might be good to watch. Also Love that Pinkie outfit

I want to see this movie so bad, but my siblings and I keep forgetting to get together to watch it.

I love your reviews. They are great to read about and I love to see what you think of the movies and other TV-related media. Hey, I know I keep asking this and I'm sorry if I'm bothering you about it, but are you going to review Steven Universe: The Movie? It's a really good movie and I can't wait to see what you think of it if you are going to review it.

Not to mention, they released the full version of Milo Murphy’s Law character Zack’s song Chop Away at my Heart.

You can never go wrong with Phineas and Ferb

After doing some research regarding what “Steven Universe” is, I’m afraid I’ll have to decline reviewing the Steven Universe franchise.

Because of its promotion and themes revolving around LGBT-ism. As a Christian, I believe that same-sex attraction and marriage is wrong and that we’re all made by God to be the genders we’re born to be. In this case, God made a boy to be a boy and a girl to be a girl, and what the series apparently goes for...does not make it the kind I’d be comfortable watching.

I’m sorry if this upsets or offends you in any way.

It's okay. I understand.

EEEP! My siblings and I finally watched it. Two words. Instant. Fun. :pinkiehappy:
