New Earth-like Exoplanet Found · 12:17pm Jul 25th, 2020
The exoplanet, Kepler-1649c, circles a red dwarf star that lies 300 light-years from Earth, a new study reports. Kepler-1649c completes one orbit every 19.5 Earth days, putting the alien planet in its host star's "habitable zone," the just-right range of distances where liquid water could exist on a world's surface. Because red dwarfs are so dim, their habitable zones lie quite close.
My thoughts on all this?
Well, there'd better be some kind of habitable planet out there, because I wanna feel like I have a place to run to to get away from this crazy planet.
Honestly, I've almost all but given up on the idea of reform. Too many angry people. Too many grubby politicians. The only way I think we're ever really going to fix all this is by doing a complete reset and going back to the beginning.
And obviously a nuclear carpet bombing of all major nations is just a bit too monstrous. Extrasolar escape is really the more humane (ha!) option to fantasize about. Leave this twisted, chaotic society and it's deep-rooted prejudices and issues behind, and start somewhere else from scratch without all that.
*sigh*
Good morning, everybody.
Just because there's new soil under our feet doesn't mean those problems won't crop up. They'll follow us to eternity. It makes no difference whether it's on this planet or on an exoplanet, corruption, greed, and pride will still be an issue.
