The Fimfiction Link Sanitizer is now up and running! · 1:02am Jul 21st, 2020

You see, the thing is that Fimfic doesn’t allow NSFW images or even links to pages that have NSFW images to be posted anywhere on the site. But sometimes you want to share one anyway. Sometimes you’re linking to the source of a cropped cover image. Or maybe you’re trying to link to a discussion page somewhere else, but you can’t because other posts on that page have NSFW images. Or maybe you want to give a link to some artist’s profile page, but their page has NSFW art on it.

Well, now there’s a solution to that: The Fimfiction Link Sanitizer!

It’s just a simple php script that will take the NSFW link you feed it and create a separate page that just has that link. You can then (with the click of a button) copy the link to that (perfectly SFW) page and share that link on Fimfic without breaking Fimfic rules. By using The Fimfiction Link Sanitizer as a middle-man, you can link to anything you want without breaking any Fimfic rules. Anyone who opens the link will only find a sanitized page with no NSFW images, and just one link that leads to something NSFW. (Sharing links to pages that in turn have links to NSFW pages is allowed by Fimfic rules.)

So just bookmark the page to create a new link, and use this new power to post (indirect) NSFW links on Fimfic wisely.

You might want to run this by the mods to make sure it's not going to get people in trouble.

An almost-identical system for FiMFetch was set up explicitly to meet site rules, and was approved. As long as you have an interstitial NSFW warning, it's OK. Nobody gets surprise smut, advertisers don't have NSFW links next to their ads, everybody's happy.

Hmm, interesting. A neat idea, let's give it a try.

You thought it was an NSFW image... BUT IT WAS ME, DIO!!!!

This is what I live for, people following the letter of the law whilst completely trampling the spirit lol.

A start? What more could you possibly want from it? :rainbowhuh:

^.^ Malicious compliance is best compliance.

Still, I wouldn't risk using it until I hear a mod explicitly approve it. It raises all sorts of questions the TOS doesn't cover because of the blanket ban on erotic imagery. Can you link to foalcon? Real-life images of gore? Actual pornography? Even if it's just cheesecake pictures I want to link to, I'd like to know the full policy before I trust a service like this.

I mean, it doesn't apply to me, because I don't want to link to erotic images. I learned pretty quickly that isn't what Fimfiction is for, and so I don't have any interest in doing it now. But still.

I would like to object here, considering there are a lot of smut stories to go around and that smut is consistently occupying the Featured Box. So, if smut is expressed in words regularly as one of the sites, one could practically say 'main functions', using such a way to link images (images that the readers no doubt would want) sounds like something that would enhance the site, while following the rules.

You have a point there. You can always just provide the Derpi number, though, or tell people what to search for.

"I heard you like links. So I put a link in your link"

Though if the end result is the same, why not make it more convenient? Doesn't matter if one provides the number, or use this method. It is the same in the end, which is why I conclude, that it should be allowed. If one is allowed, so should the other. A site after all should be user friendly.

If "the end result" is what matters then you wouldn't have to go through this process at all.

You're not even allowed to post broken hyperlinks on Fimfiction, and this method is more direct than a hyperlink you have to edit to use. I would check before using this service because I don't want to get in trouble.

If you want to argue that you should be able to post porn on Fimfiction, talk to the mods. I'm not arguing for the policies. I'm just pointing out that they exist. (No offense is intended.)
