    SMoTE Update

Next chapter isn't going to be uploaded this Friday. Sorry, I usually try to have three chapters prepared before posting but I got lazy and some personal things came up. I'll try to get them all ready quickly though. Thanks for your patience!

    Life Update.

    So…. Yeah.

Long story short, quite a few things happened. SMoTE is still not getting regular updates, at most I can try to squeeze a chapter out a month. This isn’t because I’m too busy with my new job or anything, because I apparently don’t have one.

So yeah, if you read my last blog post then you know I was planning to delay SMoTE updates because of some amazing job opportunities.

600 Likes and an Announcement! · 7:40pm Jun 16th, 2020

So, 600 likes huh? I’ll be honest, I never thought that I’d write a story that would get so many likes. So, I want to thank all of you for liking the story and following it so far. I’m glad to know that a lot of you enjoy my work, and it makes me want to do more. You’re all amazing people, and I enjoy reading the comments and discussion threads you leave on my story.

Now for the somewhat bitter news. It is with great reluctance that, I admit, that I have come to a bit of a wall in my story. As of posting this blog, I’m currently working on Chapter 26 and I’ve been having trouble with it. For the time being, I’m going on a brief hiatus to collect my thoughts and attack the problems I’m having with this chapter. There are some issues with pacing, dialogue, and perspective that I need to address. As of now, the chapter is close to 8,000 words but doesn’t have many connections between the first and last sentence. So, I’ll be stepping away from it for a while, come back, and write a few more buffer chapters to boot. This shouldn’t take long, so don’t worry. I’ll be back before the year is over.

Another announcement I’m making is a bit more controversial. Due to the opinions of some readers, and events that have occurred in the group community, I am now cutting off Skeletor from the Displaced multiverse. No tokens, no crossovers, and no mentions of void dwellers. The main reason why “Skeletor” was sent to the Empire is still cannon, and I don’t plan on changing the method of how or why he was displaced, but the future of the story has changed.

I originally wanted to have Skeletor be included in the Displaced community, but after having some time to look into the group, I’ve decided to cut him off from the Displaced multiverse. Please note, I think that Displaced stories are wonderful and I enjoy reading about author collaborations between stories, but I cannot and will not have Skeletor be part of the multiverse anymore.

I’m sorry if this news upsets some of you who were looking forward to see what shenanigans and hijinks “Skeletor” could get into with other Displaced. But, I firmly believe in my decision to have my Skeletor story cut off ties with the Displaced group.

Finally, as is customary when hitting a like goal, post any questions you have down below and I’ll try to answer them. Thank you all, and have a wonderful day.

but seriously do what you gotta do, kinda disappointed your not going to be part of the displaced universe, but still that doesn't mean you cant have your own other character that get displaced without being part of a bigger universe, in the end of the day it your fanfic, with the writing problem take your time your under no obligation

Thanks! The next chapter will be up soon. Afterwards, I'm putting the story on a brief hiatus to collect my thoughts.

I'm glad you decided not to put him in the displaced universe. Like you I love displaced stories! But most of the time some of those stories I read I wish were by themselves.
Take all the time you need dude.
Hope to see you soon. 👍

Definitely support the decision to not do the regular displaced tie-ins. As a plot device, finding X artifact and becoming Y character works just fine. I can never really get behind anything further than that though. Interweaving otherwise entirely unrelated stories is good for building community, but seems to break pacing/immersion in just about every story it's forced into. I see it like Truck-Kun as a recurring plot device, great for explaining how X character got to Y location, but I would be concerned for the story's direction if it showed up again halfway into the plotline, popping out of a portal to expand on the truck lore.

Anyways, great story so far. I'm really looking forwards to seeing where this goes after the hiatus.

The thing is, the whole multiverse thing is optional, not a requirement. People only do it because of interactions and the end result of what would benefit both universes, well if its not used for the sake of plot device where the second displaced takes care of all the problems. Basically, cross-overs is something that needs to be approached with caution as it can make or break a story if not planned carefully.

Ah, alright. I was starting to wonder if something was up. Might I ask what turned you off to the displaced setting? I can't say that I've read very many of these (maybe three or four?) so I don't really know much about it beyond the merchant and the transformation.

A few reasons. One of them was how crossovers rarely fit organically in a story. There are many writers who can work together and make a crossover work, and can even make them a major part of the story like in The Mighty Warrior of Epicness, where two displaced characters help each other and form an interesting teacher/student relationship, but there are too many stories where crossovers simply don't work, feel too forced, or feel like a dick measuring contest where, "I can win because my character has the seven eyes of death and can't be killed by anything unless the elements of harmony from three universes, four alicorns, and two gods join forces to kill me."

Finally, the biggest reason is the Displaced group itself. Don't get me wrong, I love the writers and the people who contribute to the group, but there are rules that no one seems to follow. For example, in order to be part of the Displaced group, a human needs to turn into a character, go to a version of an MLP world, and create a token to do crossovers with other writers. But, I've seen stories on the Displaced group that follow none of these rules, and it pisses me off. I even reported those stories to the admins, because those stories should have gone into the Human in Equestria group and not the Displaced group, but the admins won't do anything. So, if there's no punishment or deterrent for breaking the rules, then I won't be part of it. If a story doesn't follow those rules, then the admins should take it upon themselves to remove those stories from the group, but they don't, and it genuinely pisses me off. What's the point in following the rules if no one else will and if there's no punishments? So, yeah. I'm leaving my story in the Displaced folder and I'm not following their rules. No crossovers, no tokens, no fights with other Displaced. I hope you understand why this upsets me and why I've decided to not have Skeletor be part of the Displaced multiverse.
