Brandon Routh is officially my favorite Superman · 6:58pm Feb 14th, 2020

I have to admit, I already like Routh's performance as Superman/Clark Kent in Superman Returns. In fact, I actually liked Returns for the most part. I've never been particularly interested in the CW's Arrowverse offerings, though.

But then when I found out that Mr. Routh would be playing Superman again for their Crisis on Infinite Earths event, I started to pay attention. And my excitement only grew when I realized that he'd be playing the same Superman as the one in Returns, which by extension makes him the same one from the classic 70's-80's movies, the ones that I grew up watching.

I didn't actually see the event on TV, but I have seen clips of this particular Superman...

...and I was actually blown away.

I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with this version. I look at this and I think to myself: This is Superman. Honestly, I think this is the best live-action, on-screen interpretation of the character since...gee, I dunno, since the original Christopher Reeve movies. And Routh did such an awesome job as the character...

And then I found out that they killed him off. My reaction can be summed up thusly:

Of course, I ended up feeling a lot better when I found out that this Superman ended up getting brought back when the multiverse was restored or whatever. And look at his logo: it's back to its usual colors. So I guess what they're implying is that his family and friends are alive and well in the new multiverse.

That's a lot of words and images and videos to say...Routh is officially my favorite Superman actor.

So, uh...there.

Huh. Well this is surprising. Glad to see someone who likes Routh's performance in Returns. It was something I just found all right, but I'm glad that you're a fan.

I personally do quite like the Arrowverse Superman as portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin. At the time of his appearance, in the midst of the whole shitshow that was Man of Steel and Batman versus Superman, it was just really wonderful to have a Superman/Clark Kent who was a kind and decent human being. I was pleasantly surprised that Routh would be returning to the part in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I had a lot of fun watching him in the time he had - and yes, that bit with him at the end was really a brilliant touch.

Hoechlin is pretty good too, and I'm glad that he's finally getting a show of his own, apparently. About time, too.

As for Returns, I liked it for the most part. I actually wrote a review for it way back when I started reviewing movies around here.

I agree. Hope that it's good. ^_^

Oh really? Huh. I shall have to check that out sometime.
